UMW Toyota Motor launches the 4th generation Toyota Alphard 2.4T Executive Lounge & Vellfire 2.5 MPVs in Malaysia. All sold out for this year already!

UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT), the authorised distributor for Toyota vehicles here has launched the all-new 4th generation Toyota Alphard and Vellfire in Malaysia. The range toppingToyota Alphard and Vellfire feature cutting-edge equipment and specification tensure that they are still at the forefront of the competitive MPV segment. From state-of-the-art technology integration to versatile and spacious interiors, these models provide a driving experience like no other. (LINK to our video review is HERE)

Now, the range topping Alphard Executive Lounge gets a turbocharged 2.4liter engine with over 278PS and a whopping 430Nm of torque. Couple that with a chassis that is 50% more rigid that before, this is now an interesting premium people mover. It also gets a new 8 speed traditional torque converter gearbox driving its front wheels.

The Alphard is interesting even to someone who does not truly like these massively large MPVs. But the addition of turbocharging combined with the 8 speed new gearbox resulted in a significant increase in torque and power for the Alphard, delivering an exhilarating and engaging performance for drivers. Previously, the Alphard had to “make do” with a 3.5liter V6 engine, with 296hp and about 362Nm torque. So now you have a lighter, more torquey engine and a stiffer chassis allowing an even more rapid MPV.

The Toyota Vellfire has increased performance output with the Front Performance Brace, enhanced handling, and impeccable stability. It however keeps the 2.5liter normally aspirated petrol engine with a 7 speed CVT powering the front wheels.

The exterior styling also caught my eye. Previously this bungalow on wheels still took a lot of styling cues that you could get in a Toyota Hiace commercial van. The kink in the B-Pillar which was a character feature in all of Toyota vans for quite a while. The new one features a different type of kink, and has many character lines. The most distinctive is the window line, where there is now a 'Z' character line which breaks up the sides a little more. The character lines on the lower part is also break up the boxy-ness of the MPV. This is the same on both models.

The main difference between the Alphard and the Vellfire is the front grille. You can see the integrated large front grille which als the driving or DRLs built into the grey coloured grille below the main lights for the Alphard. The Vellfire features a split light set up with a distinct main headlight and a secondary row for the DRLs and signal lights. Also, more black out bits and a more pronounced front chin on the supposedly younger, sportier (but less engine performance) Vellfire.

While it is still a people carrier, so much work seems to have done to move away from their commercial stuff that it feels better. Of course, it is still as large and imposing as ever, and to me, this means that is should be chauffeur driven rather than owner-driven most of the time. After all, this is the number one Captain of industry ride here in most of Asia.

Oh, even less van-like than before is that longer front bonnet. You need that to break up the single box commercial van heritage and it helps. I am beginning to favour Toyota's styling these days, even for their MPVs.

UMWT President Datuk Ravindran K. described the new 7-seater models as a premium luxury experience tailored for their customers. “In an ever-evolving automotive landscape, the Toyota Alphard and Vellfire stand as beacons of innovation and sophistication. They set new standards for luxury and performance in the MPV segment, reflecting our commitment to delivering exceptional vehicles that exceed expectations.”

“The Alphard and Vellfire represent a new pinnacle of luxury and performance. These models are designed to resonate with accomplished professionals and businesses seeking a vehicle that not only complements their status but also adapts to their evolving needs” Datuk Ravindran added.

The Alphard and Vellfire offer an cabin experience reminiscent of a private jet especially the Alphard Executive Lounge. The blend of leather and woodgrain finishes, coupled with two fixed Panoramic Glass Roof that bathes the cabin in natural light, creates a feeling of luxury. The driver’s cockpit is thoughtfully designed for easy access to mechanical switches and controls.

Front and rear first-row passengers can bask in the comfort of Seat Heater and Ventilation privileges, while the Alphard Executive Lounge goes a step further, with an exclusive massage function in the Rear first-row seats. Note that there is a rear screen in the Alphard also, as well as the use of Nappa leather interior trim versus the Synthetic leather used in the Vellfire.

Equipped with advanced Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 technology, including enhanced Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert, Road Sign Assist, and Adaptive High-beam System, safety remains paramount without compromising on the luxurious experience.

Both models are offered in four colours - Platinum White Pearl, Precious Metal, Precious Leo-Blond (Alphard only), and Black.

The All-New Alphard and Vellfire cars come with a full 5-year warranty. UMWT is also the exclusive distributor with official sales and service, providing a trusted service and parts guarantee. With more than 74 Sales Service dealers nationwide, premium end-to-end servicing is ensured, with dedicated body and paint centers also available.

The Toyota Alphard 2.4T Executive Lounge is priced at RM 538,000 without insurance, while the Toyota Vellfire 2.5 is available at RM 438,000 without insurance.

However, as at time of writing, both have a one year wait list on them. It seems the well heeled are putting their money for this premium MPV and they want it brand new rather than waiting for grey imports. Interesting.
