The next new Volkswagen to be launched here in Malaysia is the Volkswagen Arteon. This is what was once the Passat CC, then the CC and now, the Arteon 5 door fastback coupe by Volkswagen (it used to be a 4 door sedan/coupe). Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM), the folks who are the official Volkswagen distributor here is now accepting pre-bookings for the all-new Volkswagen Arteon. The fully imported Arteon R-Line is expected to be priced between RM290,000 and RM310,000 when it launches in a few months time.
The Volkswagen Arteon is a 5-door fastback is Volkswagen’s flagship model, unless they start selling the Phaeton again. The fastback offers sleek sporty styling, practicality and that renowned Volkswagen drive experience in a more premium package. Arteon comes from Art, which describes the fastback’s harmonious lines and emotionality, while ‘eon’ identifies’ it as a premium Volkswagen model. First launched over in Europe in 2017 it makes its way here finally and was won acolades like Europe's “2017 Golden Steering Wheel”, one of the most renowned automotive awards in Europe.
The 2019 Arteon offered here will be powered by a 2.0L TSI turbocharged engine mated to a 7-speed wet clutch direct shift gearbox (DSG) - the best type of DSG in my opinion. 280PS and torque of 350Nm between 5,100 to 6,500rpm is transferred to all four wheels via 4MOTION all-wheel drive system. So think of this as a larger, Golf R in terms of powertrain and drivetrain. Should be an interesting drive as it gets a sweet drivetrain of the R, and the competent chassis of the current B8 Passat but clothed in a sexier body.
Inside, it will come with the new Active Info Display with high-resolution display colour thin-film transistor (TFT), the new setting allows for customization and full map view. The new Discover Pro infotainment system runs through a 9.2-inch screen fitted with gesture control and Wireless App- Connect (CarPlay, Android Auto and MirrorLink). This is also a new 360-degree area view camera enables drivers to see the surroundings of the car through four discreetly integrated cameras.
The Arteon will come fitted with both interior and exterior R-Line styling package and is available in eight colours – Manganese Grey, Deep Black, Reflex Silver, Romance Red, Urano Grey, Turmeric Yellow, Oryx White Pearl and Pyrite Silver.
The all new Arteon will be making an early appearance at Volkswagen showrooms, and Malaysians eager to sneak a peek are invited to register their interest on the Volkswagen website for an exclusive invite.
