All good things come to an end. The current iteration of the Volkswagen New Beetle is in its final legs of production as Volkswagen had announced that 2019 will be its final year of production. So as a wrap up to a illustrious production run and its sale here in Malaysia, Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) has unveiled an homage to the Bug with the exclusive Collector’s Edition Beetle. Only 75 units of this Beetle will be on sale in this special final edition specification.
The 2019 Volkswagen Beetle Collector’s Edition is priced at RM164,390 (before insurance) and is available in Blue Silk, Pure White, Habanero Orange and Tornado Red. It is fitted with accessories worth up to RM12,000 to differentiate it from the usual Beetles running around the roads of Malaysia. The accessories are a rear spoiler, decorative film, chrome exhaust tips, aluminium sports pedals, scuff plates, VW Tint and an emblem marking its production run. Aside from that, all 75 owners of the Collector's Edition will receive an official Collector’s Edition certificate of ownership.
The Volkswagen Beetle, especially in its original form is a cult object and design icon. It has captured the hearts and minds of the people in its 80 years of production (in both its old and new models). Designed by Ferdinand Porsche in 1938, over 21.5 million units have been sold globally, making it one of the best-selling cars in the 20th century.
As this is the last special edition Beetle to be offered in Malaysia, this could be the perfect Beetle for Beetle fans who want a unique, one-of-a-kind variant of an iconic model. Erik Winter, Managing Director of VPCM (above) said that the Collector’s Edition Beetle is a celebration of the amazing run the Beetle has had.
“No other car has sparked such a cult following and defined generations the way the Beetle has. This is the end of an era, so it is only right that we celebrate the life and times of the Beetle with something truly special that is the Collector’s Edition.” said Mr. Winter.
“All good things must come to an end, and it is the same with this global bestseller. The Beetle has enjoyed a rich history - in Malaysia it is one that dates to when it was assembled in Shah Alam in 1968. In fact, most Malaysians grew up with a connection to the much-loved car.” he added
After three generations, Volkswagen announced that it will cease production of the Beetle. So the world will be Beetle-less for some time. Hopefully the folks at Volkswagen will be inspired and come up with one again in the near future.
