DRB-HICOM and Geely work together to attract investors to the Tanjung Malim Automotive High Tech Valley (AHTV)



Today DRB-HICOM via PROTON and Geely held the Global Investors & Vendors Convention 2023 which showcases investment opportunities at the Proton City in Tanjung Malim. The location will be renamed as the Automotive High Tech Valley and will be a place where both Malaysian and Chinese vendors can come, set up shop and develop cars especially for those new energy vehicles (NxGV), whether battery electric or other ways and also as a hub for Geely to test and tropicalise their vehicles for the equatorial (and harsh climate regions). The innaugural event saw over 200 participants including government agency officials, Malaysian vendors and 42 automotive suppliers from China.

PROTON Officially Opens its Latest Hi-Tech Engine Assembly Line in Tanjung Malim


PROTON earlier today unveiled their latest engine assembly line at their Tanjung Malim plant at an exclusive event for invited media guests. The hi-tech assembly line has been in operation since April this year and produces the company’s 1.5 TGDI (Turbo Gasoline Direct Injection) engine, the first time it has been assembled outside of China and is one of the most advanced automotive engine assembly lines in the country. This means that even more local content is in Proton's SUVs after this.

Proton Officially Announces the Roll-Out of the First Proton X70 SUV at its New Plant Extension in Tanjung Malim


About a year since the Proton X70 SUV was launched in Malaysia, PROTON has announced the official roll out of the first X70 to be built at its new RM1.2 billion plant extension in Tanjung Malim.  The roll-out ceremony was attended by the Honourable Datuk Darell Leiking, Minister of International Trade and Industry, Dato’ Sri Syed Faisal Albar, Chairman of PROTON, Mr An Conghui, President and CEO of Geely Auto Group as well as senior management members of PROTON.

Perodua Invests RM7 Million into IQM Sdn Bhd to Centralise Their Old Model Body Parts Manufacturing



This piece of news happened a couple of weeks ago but it is interesting in terms of investments made in the Malaysian automotive industry. Our folks at Perodua has basically  centralised their parts production for its past models with the launch of a new press stamping machine (seen in the photo above) at its supplier's facility, IQM Sdn Bhd. The RM7 Million investment is unique in that it shows that Perodua is still catering to their older customers by providing a constant supply of spare parts for their past generation vehicles aside from expanding their supplier's capabilities so that they may eventually compete on a global level.

Perodua Will Continue To Supply Parts For The Previous Generation Myvi And Other Perodua Models Too


Perodua have announced that they will continue their spare parts support their second-generation Myvi for a while longer. This commitment was made when they officially opened a new parts production line dedicated to the second-generation Myvi. The plant is operated by Perodua vendor IQM Sdn Bhd at its Proton City, Tanjung Malim facility. The plant currently produces body components including hoods, doors, fenders, quarter panels and roofs for the second generation Myvi.
