There is now a New Ford Ranger XLT 2.2L Special Edition offered exclusively for customers in Malaysia. According to Sime Darby Auto Connexion, authorised distributors for Ford in Malaysia, there will be limited units will be available for sale from now onwards. The New Ford Ranger XLT 2.2L Special Edition comes in Arctic White and Absolute Black colour options as well as some other notable extras like fender flares, a rear view camera and a functional tonneau cover.
The interior gets a better in-truck infotainment system. It features an upgraded nine-inch sized touchscreen display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The infotainment system supports mobile applications such as Spotify, Waze, YouTube and Google Chrome, as well as hotspot connectivity for everyone (who has the password) to share.
The only other addition left to mention are the trendy geometrical decals on each side of the limited run Ranger XLT Special Edition. I suppose stickers are a good way to tart up the looks easily. So again, you get all the equipment fitted to the Ranger XLT, but it gets some exterior trim and a better infotainment system from the higher specced Ranger (like the WildTrak). Since it is an XLT variant Ranger, it is powered by the trusty and reliable 2.2Liter Ford Duratorq turbodiesel engine rather than the more powerful but smaller capacity 2.0liter turbodiesel engine. This 2.2liter makes 160PS and 385Nm torque.
The transmission is a 6 speed automatic gearbox and it features 4X4 Shift-On-The-Fly to get you going without the need of stopping when the terrain requires you to put it into or out of 4wd mode. Aside from that the Ranger XLT Special Edition features rain sensing wipers, the light and nimble Electric Power Assisted Steering (EPAS), daytime running lights and headlights for better visibility.
Other notable equipment are the two airbags fitted, e-locking rear differential, Hill Descent Control, Hill Launch Assist, Antilock Braking System (ABS) with Emergency Brake Assist (EBA) and Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD), ISOFIX child seat mounts, Electronic Stability Control with Traction Control, Rollover Mitigation, Trailer Sway Control and Adaptive Load Control.
The limited run Ranger XLT Special Edition is priced at RM120,888 for Peninsular Malaysia and RM126,388 for Sabah and Sarawak (on- the-road, without insurance).
It is currently on display at all Ford showrooms in Peninsular Malaysia. For East Malaysia however, the truck will make its first public appearance at showrooms during the third week of December 2019.
