Bermaz Motor, the authorised distributor for Mazda vehicles here in Malaysia, had hosted its 7th Mazda Charity Golf Tournament for the Mazda Medicare Fund (MMF) on the 1st of December 2019. The golf tournament was organised with the aim to provide humanitarian aid and medical relief to under privileged people in Malaysia. Bermaz Motor organises events like these to actively support charitable communities with financial aid such as old folk’s homes and orphanages. This is how Bermaz, and Mazda gives back to the community here in Malaysia.
This year, the charity tournament was held at the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Golf & Country Club (SAASGCC) in Shah Alam. The event had received super positive support from about 150 participants, donors and sponsors. At the end of the day, the charity golf tournament had managed to raise an impressive sum of RM447,550.00. The proceeds of the funds will be distributed to the Mazda Medicare Fund (MMF).
There was a small presentation ceremony during the lunch at the event. Representatives from the various beneficiaries received mock cheques from from Dato’ Sri Ben Yeoh, Bermaz Auto Berhad’s Executive Chairman. This year's recipients for the charity fund were Mount Miriam Cancer Hospital in Penang, St Joseph’s Home, House of Love, Pusat Jagaan OKU Nur and Persatuan Penjagaan Kanak –Kanak Terencat Akal Selangor.
The Mazda Medicare Fund or MMF was first initiated in 2015. It is jointly managed with Prima Merdu Sdn Bhd and in collaboration with B. Braun Avitum Renal Services where its main objective is to provide life-saving haemodialysis treatment for end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients who have financial constraints. To date, there are 12 B. Braun’s dialysis centres operating throughout Malaysia and eligible patients would receive subsidized haemodialysis treatments at these centres. Over the past 5 years, the MMF has contributed a total of RM2.4 million which have supported more than 176 patients throughout Malaysia.
Aside from the above, MMF has also supported a dozen various charitable communities such as old folk’s homes, orphanage, people with disabilities and down syndrome children through financial aid and charity events such as the golf charity tournament. Charitable communities are selected and vetted by the MMF Team to ensure that all donations made go out to those that need it the most and are put to good use. The MMF Team consists of volunteers within the Bermaz organization and because of this, there are no additional cost involved in MMF’s operations. This will allow all donations received to go where it really matters without any overheads or fees taken by MMF.
As a tie-in programme with MMF, Bermaz has also introduced the Mazda Privilege Card (MPC) in 2018 whereby all sign-up fees will serve as funds donated by Mazda Owners. According to Bermaz, the introduction of the MPC has been well received by the Mazda car owners.
Aside from contributing to the society, owners of the MPC can also enjoy a 15% discount on Mazda genuine spare parts and official merchandise, along with a 5% discount on labour charges which is applicable at Mazda showrooms and aftersales service centres operated by Bermaz Motor and Prima Merdu. Donations to the MMF have since continued to increase rapidly thanks to the benevolent contributions of social responsibility conscious Mazda Owners who continues to engage with Bermaz Motor through various charitable programmes
Bermaz has stated that they believe that one of the good ways to contribute to the society is by partnering with the community and the Mazda Medicare Fund (MMF) is one of the corporate social responsibility projects to bring about a society and enrich the lives of those who are in need. They also state that they are thankful and are in appreciation for the unwavering support from their valued customers, business partners, donors and sponsors to the MMF initiative in its mission to help those in need.
