The Ford Ranger is really making Ford's sales in Malaysia soar. Out of 830 units of retail sales in November, 707 units from this is the Ranger XLT and also the 3.2liter Ranger WildTrak. The Ranger is indeed a fabulous pick-up as I had the opportunity to test drive one a sometime ago (not this latest facelifted one but that was actually competent enough for most of us).
But I do hope that more people would also find out the virtues of the other Ford cars out there. The Mondeo is a fantastic D segment sedan, the EcoSport is a decent performer in the mini SUV category and the Fiesta is any form is a supermini that drives well. Do remember that there are other nice Fords out there folks.
Strong Demand for New Ranger Drives Ford’s November Sales in Malaysia
KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, Dec. 11, 2015 – Ford today announced November retail sales
in Malaysia of 830 units, driven by continued demand for the new Ranger, Malaysia’s most
capable, powerful, and smartest pickup.
As Ford’s best-selling nameplate in Malaysia, the class-defining Ranger delivered November
retail sales of 707 units, as strong demand continued for both the fully-equipped and most
popular XLT and the top of the line Wildtrak. Year-to-date Ranger sales have jumped 12
percent to 8,477 units.
“Malaysian customers are looking for vehicles that offer a great combination of capability,
performance, safety and technology, and the new Ranger’s class-leading combination of all
of these is proving popular with customers nationwide,” said David Westerman, managing
director, Malaysia and Asia Pacific Emerging Markets, Ford Motor Company.
“As demand for the new Ranger continues to grow, and as we end our best-ever year for
Ranger sales since its introduction to Malaysia 15 years ago, we are working hard to keep
dealer stock high across our network so we can ramp-up customer deliveries nationwide.”
Available with either a 2.2-litre Duratorq four-cylinder diesel engine or a 3.2-litre Duratorq
five-cylinder diesel engine, the new Ranger is the most powerful pickup in Malaysia, has the
segment’s highest payload capacity of up to 1,200kg, and can wade through up to 800mm of
water, the deepest of any pickup in Malaysia.
November also marked three important milestones for the new Ranger, which was
recognised for its class-leading safety features and its overall leadership in the pickup truck
segment.
Underlining its safety leadership, the new Ranger was awarded a maximum five-star safety
rating by the ASEAN New Car Assessment Program (ASEAN NCAP), with a total Adult
Occupant Protection (AOP) score of 15.45/16 points – the highest of any pickup truck in
Malaysia.
The Ranger’s suite of active and passive safety features is unmatched, with up to six airbags
– three times more than any other pickup in Malaysia. Ford’s Electronic Stability Control
(ESC) and ISOFIX child safety mounts also come standard, making Ranger the only pickup
truck in the country to offer these two important safety features across all variants. These are
complemented by smart technologies such as Lane Keeping Aid, Adaptive Cruise Control
with Forward Collision Warning, Electric Power-Assisted Steering (EPAS), Roll Over
Mitigation and MyKey, a system that allows the programming of various features, such as
setting the maximum speed limit, a seatbelt reminder and the maximum volume of the audio
system.
Building on its growing momentum since launch in October, the new Ranger was also
named ‘Pick Up Truck of the Year’ at the 2015 ASEAN Car of The Year (ACOTY) awards,
while the top of the line Ranger Wildtrak picked up the same award at the New Straits
Times-Maybank Car of the Year (COTY) 2015.
