The Volkswagen Golf R has been awarded the "Driver's Car of the Year" at the 2015 ASEAN Car of the Year (ACOTY) awards yesterday. This is the first ACOTY Awards and it is an automotive industry award programme formed exclusively to reward outstanding vehicles in the ASEAN region and is honored by a non-profit community of motoring journalist from Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia as well as industry experts from the ASEAN region.
The Golf R is indeed a special Golf. It is powered by a highly tuned version of the 2.0liter TSi engine that is also found in the Golf GTi. It also has all-wheel drive instead of just being front wheel drive (the Golf GTi is front wheel drive) It makes 280ps and 380Nm and does 0-100 in about 5.0seconds. I have recently tested this car and it is a very, very, very competent point to point all weather driver's machine. A drive report should be out soon so keep an eye out for it.
