Modified Cars: Chelsea Truck Company Big Foot Edition Land Rover Defender - Those Tyres Are To Die For

Recently it has been like the whole passenger car industry is just coming out with SUVs or pick up trucks rather than normal cars these days. It started off with our review of the Volkswagen Tiguan Highline, then BMW Malaysia launched some Sport Activity Vehicles - the X2 and X3 here , the Range Rover Velar was launched, the Ford Ranger Wildtrak 2.2 and I also put on a video or two on the Haval H2 SUV. Then I remember my short video on the Toyota Fortuner at the GAZOO Racing Festival too. So let's continue by featuring the Chelsea Truck Company Big Foot Edition Land Rover Defender.

Chelsea Truck Company's latest 'upgraded' Land Rover Defender 'End Edition' - Based on the final few Land Rover Defender 2.2 TDCI XS 110 Station Wagon

This is the Chelsea Truck Company's 'upgraded' Land Rover Defender. Part of Kahn Design,, the Chelsea Truck Company's ‘End Edition’ is based on the Land Rover Defender 2.2 TDCI XS 110 Station Wagon. The simple fact that this is a modded Land Rover Defender is all the reason I keep featuring one of these here time after time.

Modified Cars: Land Rover Range Rover Sport 5.0 V8 Supercharged SVR Pace Car by Project Kahn

I love the current Range Rover Sport. In any form. Even those modded by Project Kahn from the UK. Now Project Kahn has spent nearly 20 years taking some of the best vehicles the automotive world could offer and making them better or worse. Depending on your point of view. These days they do a lot of Land Rover vehicles. And they look quite good actually. No ridiculously garish stuff!

Sunday Lite: Project Kahn Land Rover Range Rover 4.4 TDV8 Westminster Edition - Something nice to get stuck in a Raya Open House traffic jam

Taking it easy this weekend as it is still Hari Raya Aidil Fitri open house weekends till the end of July. I heard a friend's relative took 3 hours to reach Section 6 in Shah Alam from Ampang Jaya. Hearing this was stressful. So this is Project Kahn's latest showing which would make sitting in a traffic jam much more relaxing. The Project Kahn Land Rover Range Rover 4.4 TDV8 Westminster Edition. According to Kahn this is the ideal vehicle one would associate with royalty. Fuiyoh.

The Chelsea Truck Company Black Hawk Wide Track by Kahn Design

A Jeep Wrangler with the volume pumped up to eleven is what this is. Not much to say about this Chelsea Truck Company Black Hawk Wide Track except that it is done to satisfy the whims and fancies of those who want something brutal looking done to the old, trusty Wrangler. I don't think this is all about looks as at least the Chelsea Truck Company uses off road capable tyres. Not just for on the road posing only.

If you're in the UK you cn buy this for a smidgen under £50,000. Actually a whole £1 less than £50,000 that is.

Sportscar News: Kahn Design Vengeance

Kahn Design has revealed their coachbuilt or bespoke rebuild of an Aston Martin DB9 called the Vengeance over at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show recently. It harks back to the days where coachbuilders take a chassis of a car, then outfit and rebody it with whatever they or their clients fancy.

Kahn Design releases photos and a video of their upcoming Vengeance supercar

Kahn Design of the UK, who are famous for modding Range Rovers and Land Rovers will unveil their latest car called the Vengeance. I believe it is based on the Aston Martin DB9 with a different front and rear end. The front end has a very toothy evil grin and the rear reminds me of a Ferrari. The overall effect seems to be close to a Zagato Aston Martin actually. But with a tad less flair than the Italian Coachbuilder. But I think this will be opinion dividing. Of course, controversy is sometimes a very good marketing tool. More people talk about it, the better.

Kahn Design's latest Land Rover Defender 2.2 TDCI 90 Hard Top - Chelsea Wide Track.

I love it every time I receive new stuff from Kahn Design's PR people. I get material pertaining to chunky, tough, Tonka toy looking 4x4s that look even more chunky, tough Tonka toy than before. This time around we have the Land Rover Defender 2.2 TDCI 90 with what Kahn calls the 'Chelsea Wide Track' spec. I have featured this specification a couple of times but since the pics make the Defender 90 Chelsea Wide Track look even better, let's do it again.

The latest Jeep Wrangler CJ300 by the Chelsea Truck Company and Kahn Design

Jeep was recently re-introduced in Malaysia but we still haven't seen many of them on our roads. I think it boils down to the price. The cheapest one, the Compass costs over RM220,000 and the iconic Wrangler costs over RM260,000. Imagine trying to sell an icon when you have another even bigger (in this ex-British colony) icon called the Land Rover Defender selling for around RM150,000+. You're essentially screwed.

Anyway, let's enjoy some car porn courtesy of Kahn Design. They've fiddled with the latest Jeep Wrangler and made it into their own. In other words, more leather, black wheels and bright paint. At least those of you here would get an idea on how to bling up your Wrangler if you aren't happy with the standard looks.

Kahn Design previews sketches of their custom car the 'Vengeance'

Kahn Design has finally issued sketches of their upcoming coachbuilt car called the Vengeance. it will be built on a new Aston Martin DB9 chassis but its custom built body will have the wide arch looks of the earlier Aston Martin Vanquish from 2001.

This car will look butch like the old Vanquish and have the latest Aston Martin chassis to back up its bite. Production is scheduled to begin shortly and is set to be produced in the Midlands, UK.

I find this somewhat exciting as sometimes, these smaller tuning houses try to shoot higher than usual. So here's to ingenuity and passion, folks. Even though it does look like you're just buying a modified DB9.

PRESS RELEASE
Origins

The practice of automotive coach-building stretches back to the early 1900s, when discerning customers would employ the services of expert craftsmen to create a custom vehicle body on a pre-manufactured chassis.

Following in this tradition, renowned British designer Afzal Kahn has announced the launch of a new coachbuilt car codenamed the Vengeance.

Built on a new Aston Martin DB9 chassis, the Vengeance is a wide body two door coupe, with a muscular, aggressive design evoking the silhouette of a sabretooth on the prowl.

Design

A supercar owner and connoisseur since his late teens, Kahn has always sought to push the boundaries of car design, developing a distinctive, aggressive design language. Inspired by the Aston Martin designs of the 1980s and 90s, the Vengeance is the culmination of Kahn’s lifelong pursuit to create the car he has always wanted to drive.

In a radical departure from contemporary design conventions, the Vengeance favours volume and flowing curves over angular surfaces. The result is a spectacular fusion of modern engineering and classic streamlined design.

Kahn’s style and personality is evident in every curve of the Vengeance, the result of a painstaking design process, working and reworking each line and surface to the point of perfection.

The most arresting features are the widened rear wings, emphasised by lines projected from the signature bonnet bulge, through the roof and along the length of the car. These visual aids work in unison to promote a more poised, meaningful stance, sweeping rearwards from the unmistakable grille centrepiece.

The polished stainless steel roof halo and window trim reinforce this balance, curving to meet at the diminished rear windows, which enhance the coupe style of the Vengeance.

The visual mass of the rear is augmented by the staggered wheels, with a 16 spoke 20" wheel at the front on 225 tyres and an 18 spoke 21" wheel on 335 tyres to the rear. The multi spoke design and inner rim takes inspiration from the classic roulette wheel, with a two tone finish juxtaposing the central section in body colour with the diamond cut outer section.

Production

Production of a limited series of vehicles will begin in 2015, and the Vengeance will be manufactured in the Midlands, in a nod to the region’s history as the heartland of the British automotive industry.

Each vehicle will be hand built by Kahn’s chosen team of craftsmen and automotive experts, and will carry an engraved plaque in the boot bearing the names of every member of the British team who worked on the car – a guarantee of the quality craftsmanship invested in each vehicle.

The limited production run is aimed at discerning collectors and investors alike. Vengeance owners will be given unique previews of future coachbuilt projects, as well as advance invitations to purchase new vehicles.

With the price of handbuilt sports cars rising, the Vengeance is likely to prove a sound investment. Pricing is yet to be confirmed, but is expected to represent extremely good value for a limited edition coachbuilt car.

Statement: Afzal Kahn

"Launching the Vengeance is the realisation of a dream I’ve had since childhood, to design and produce my own car. I’ve worked in the industry my whole career, and I want to leave a legacy which I can be proud of. The design has gone through several iterations over the years and I’ve taken my time in selecting the right partners to prototype and manufacture the car, ensuring it represents the pinnacle of quality and perfection."

"I’ve kept every aspect of the underlying car from the crash structures to airbags - mechanically it’s unaltered - why change perfection? This is coachbuilding in its traditional sense - taking a tried and tested product and working solely on the aesthetic."

"The Vengeance underlines Kahn Design’s expertise in design and coach-building. With a team of over 25 designers in house we’re involved in all aspects of product design from automotive to timepieces, interiors, retail space, clothing and accessories."

"Aston Martin has always been an inspiration, in particular the early Vanquish and the V600 Vantage wide bodies, and I’m grateful for their agreement, and for wishing us success on this project. The Vengeance pays homage to those classic designs while using modern engineering to create something unique and original which reflects my own style."

I do wish to see one of these monsters on our roads especially in and around Cameron Highlands. The Land Rover Defender 2.4 TDCI 90 Pick Up Chelsea Wide Track by Kahn Design. Imagine one of these transporting cabbages and broccoli up and down Brincang to Tapah. Cabbages flying everywhere. But what a sight it could be.
