Mansang Logistics Takes Delivery of the First Scania New Truck Generation XT Rigid Truck and Enters into the Scania Ecolution Agreement

Mansang Logistics is the first truck operator in Sarawak to sign the Scania Ecolution Agreement. The signing of the agreement also coincided with the delivery of Mansang Logistics' First Scania New Truck Generation XT Rigid type heavy duty truck. The Scania Ecolution agreement was entered between Scania Malaysia represented by Phang Yee Fong, the Regional Manager for the East Coast and East Malaysia, Scania Southeast Asia and Lim Kee San,Head of Customer Management who represeted Mansang Logistics Sdn Bhd.

The Ecolution Programme is Scania's tailor-made arrangement between the company and its customers with the sole purpose of maximising their customer fleet's fuel efficiency. A goal achieved and maintained long-term through ongoing driver training, digital coaching, and vehicle and fleet optimisation.

Mansang Logistics feel that their signing into the Ecolution programme will help the company achieve its commitment to reduce its carbon footprint and help care for the environment.

Alex Lai Sian Ann (Alex), Managing Director of Mansang Logistics stated that the impact and responsibility his company has on the environment especially when its core business revolves around long-distance transportation. As his vehicles are traveling more than a thousand kilometres into rural areas on a daily basis, signing up as a Scania Ecolution partner is the natural step towards reducing fuel consumption and thereby reducing the company’s carbon footprint. Scania Ecolution is a tailor-made partnership between Scania and customers that focuses on reducing fuel consumption resulting in reduced Carbon Dioxide (CO2) emissions.

The partnership also focuses on reducing operating cost, translating to improved profitability while fulfilling the growing demand for environmentally-friendly initiatives. As with any operator of long haul vehickes, efficiency in all aspects are taken into account in achieving profitability. So why not help ensure that the environment is also nurtured while they are at it.

“We are proud to be the first in Sarawak to be a Scania Ecolution Partner, knowing that this state has one of the world’s largest and oldest rainforest. Sustainability is already a natural way of life for Sarawakians and Mansang Logistics intend to continue that journey. With the rich biodiversity available in Sarawak, it is our duty to ensure that future generations can experience the wonders nature has to offer and Scania Ecolution is a first step towards preserving our environment,” added Alex.

Over the past 25 years, Scania has provided the industry’s broadest range of products that run on alternatives to fossil fuels. In fact, Scania recently announced its aim to set Science Based Target (SBTi). The approval of these targets now marks another major milestone on the journey towards fossil-free transport and Scania has to date stated that they have significantly reduced CO2 emissions from its own operations and from its own transport and logistics. Scania has also worked towards minimising emissions from its products through fuel efficiency measures.

“At Scania, we believe that sustainability and profitability can go hand-in- hand. We are glad that Mansang is joining us on this journey towards a more sustainable transport system.” stated Phang Yee Fong.

Mansang Logistics started operations in 2010. It was founded by Alex Lai, assisted by Henry Tiong where they first started a milk run business under P.M.S. Enterprise. The main business was transporting goods on a daily basis from major cities to rural towns such as Belaga, Bakun, and Sungai Asap using several different modes of transport. They first started the business using four-wheel pickup trucks to boats.

In 2015 Alex, who also has a decade of experience in the maintenance and fabrication sector decided to expand and formed Mansang Logistics Sdn Bhd and his main aim at the time was to ensure that the company was able to coordinate and deliver to all seven districts in Sarawak, which is a task as the state is large and largely undeveloped in terms of transport infrastructure in most parts. For the first few years, Alex maintained the use of four-wheel pickup trucks for deliveries.

As for the newly purchased truck, this is the first Scania New Truck Generation (NTG) XT Rigid type operated by Mansang Logistics. It was handed over to them by Scania at the new Scania Malaysia Sales and Service Centre in Kuching, Sarawak. This handover was quite meaningful to the brand as this was the first Scania New Truck Generation, the first Scania XT series, and the first Scania rigid type truck, in Sarawak.

The truck is a Scania NTG P250 (250hp) 4x2 Rigid truck and quite well specced up with an air deflector, protective guards for the headlights and it fitted out for the rough roads in Sarawak. It should do great over there.

So many firsts for what is essentially a very good truck in terms of build quality, efficiency and driveability. You can check out our videos on the Scania NTG on our YouTube channel folks.
