Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd (UMWT), distributor of Toyota and Lexus vehicles in Malaysia, have announced a recall or in Toyota talk, Special Service Campaign (SSC), which is an official call to replace the fuel pump on certain units of Toyota and Lexus models. This SSC is an expansion of earlier campaign which expands on the models stated earlier.
According Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC), 9,500 new units of Toyota (Alphard, Vellfire, Camry, Corolla, Fortuner, Innova, C-HR and Harrier) and 850 new units of Lexus (ES250, GS200t, GS350, IS200t, LC500, LS500, LX570, NX300, RX300 and RX350) models were manufactured from July 2017 to July 2019 and distributed by UMWT. All of these models are involved in this campaign.
If the model is not listed here then they are not affected by this campaign. So owners of these models should not worry or need to bring their vehicles in for a free of charge change of the affected part. You should as the faulty fuel pump may cause the affected vehicle to not work.
If this were to happen, warning lights and messages may be displayed on the instrument panel, and engine power hesitation may happen. Worse case scenario is that the car will fail to start since the fuel pump is necessary to pump fuel from the tank to the engine. No proper fuel supply would mean that the engine would be starved of the fuel needed for it to function. Hence the urgency of this service campaign.
UMWT will officially notify all its affected vehicle owners to replace the fuel pump unit at no charge. This means that the fuel pump is free in terms of replacement, but there is a small caveat. According tot eh official press release, the replacement work should depend on the car models.
For more information especially when you are unsure whether there will be any labour charges or how long it may take, call any authorised Toyota Service Centre or call the Toyota Freephone at 1800-8-TOYOTA (869682).
