Enhanced Toyota Vios Soon to be Launched - Now Open for Booking

Right after announcing the new Toyota Yaris slight facelift and equipment upgrade, UMW Toyota Motor have announced that the best selling Vios will shortly be sold with a front end refresh and will also come equipped with more premium safety features. The new refreshed for 2021 Toyota Vios compact sedan will be available for booking from today onwards and you can book either online or at all authorised Toyota Showrooms throughout Malaysia.

Like the refreshed for 2021 Toyota Yaris, the safety features and styling are the two key areas that have received the most attention in the newly-enhanced Toyota Vios. It does look a little more sportier and should satisfy those that like their cars looking all aggressive and all. It has a more 'angry' looking front bumper and grille setup. The lights, the grille and lower grille all mesh into one glorious 'X' shape coupled with the side intake (with driving lights) make it very sporty looking.

I think the front is now so aggressively styled that the rear looks quite plain! Basically it has a new grille design, a bumper with an Aero kit which comes fitted with a front lip, and defined by new triple bezel full LED Headlights with built-in Daytime Running Light (DRL).

The new headlights are also wired with follow-me-home function for greater safety and convenience. The best thing about this is that this feature is given throughout the introductory, intermediate and top of the range J, E and G variants respectively. So everyone gets the same lights which is a good thing indeed. Every Vios owner will win in terms of lighting.

According to President of UMW Toyota Motor Sdn. Bhd.Mr. Ravindran K., “The enhanced Vios has an even more dynamic presence with a front silhouette that is consistent with models such as the Corolla, Camry and the recently-enhanced Yaris. Yet, despite this strong family resemblance, the Vios projects its own unique personality that has made it popular with a diverse demographic of buyers,”

This current generation of Toyota's popular B segment compact sedan was first launched over here in January 2019. It has been extremely popular with the compact sedan segment and UMW has refreshed the car to ensure that it stays fresh and relevant with the Malaysian car buying crowd.

Notable accomplishments of this current Vios is that it is the first in its segment to have been awarded with a 5-star ASEAN NCAP safety rating. So in terms of safety features, it is now better with added active safety equipment.

The newly enhanced Vios will now come with Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) features that incorporates apre-collision system (PCS) and a lane departure alert (LDA). PCS is activated from 15km/h to reduce the risk of colliding with a preceding car, alerting the driver once it detects a vehicle within the colliding distance and assists to reduce vehicle speed as additional support to the driver.

The Lane Departure Alert (LDA), is activated from a speed of 50km/h and above, and alerts drivers to an unintended lane changes by giving a visual alert on the car’s Multi-Info Display and a beeping sound. This system can also be turned off at the discretion of the driver. I personally like LDA in most cars and it definitely works in the jam packed traffic in large cities here where motorcycles weave in and out of traffic.

The new equipment mentioned above are in addition to existing safety features built into the car in the form of Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Traction Control (TRC), Hill-Start Assist Control (HAC), Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), and Front as well as Rear Digital Video Recorders (DVRs).

It is currently the only car in it segment to be fitted with seven SRS airbags (dual front, side, curtains and driver’s knee protection).

More goodies include an all-new 3D 360 degree panoramic view monitor, giving the driver a surround and unobstructed front, rear, top, sides and three dimensional virtual views of the vehicle.

In terms of navigation applications, connectivity and infotainment, the enhanced Vios is now topped with a 7” inch Android Auto-Ready & Apple CarPlay (AACP). Vehicle Telematics System is also made as a standard feature for the Vios (G&E variants) in line with the company’s direction to enhance Connectivity under its 360-T Plus brand experience.

This enhanced Vios will be offered with a choice of two new colours, Orange Metallic and Platinum White Pearl. You can also opt from existing colours available that include Dark Blue Metallic, Red Mica Metallic and Silver Metallic.

The new Vios is now open for online bookings and also at all authorized Toyota showrooms nationwide from today. Like all UMW Toyota sold cars it is backed by a 5-year warranty with unlimited mileage.

Prices will be announced soon and customers will continue to benefit from the current waived sales tax for new and locally-assembled vehicles which is valid until the end of the year.

You can also be able to perform online booking of this new model on the UMW Toyota official website starting 16th November 2020.

This new Vios is definitely value for your money in terms of its styling and equipment levels. of course, prices have not been confirm yet but with its specification and a more aggressive UMW Toyota, this should be one of the better compact cars to buy in 2020 and 2021.

Now since this Vios is more of a facelift and safety equipment, the driving experience should be similar to the one I tested when it was launched. You can view that in the video attached below.
