TRUCK & BUS NEWS: Volvo Trucks' VISTA Competition 2015-2016 - Team Harju wins but all VISTA participants including those from the Asia Pacific region benefit from competing

VISTA (Volvo International Service Training Award) is the largest competition for workshop personnel in the world. What originally started in 1957 as a competition for Volvo's mechanics in Sweden has since become an international event. The aim of VISTA is to develop and improve employees' knowledge and skills and improve customer service. The competition is open to all workshop employees within the Volvo Trucks and Volvo Buses global service network. VISTA 2015-2016 has been the biggest ever, with more than 18,500 participants from across the world.

Participants from Asia Pacific alone number more than 4,000 participants. This was double from the previous VISTA competition. What is important is that VISTA is an effective way of motivating and inspiring employees, while also providing a competitive stage for them to learn and develop. It is also a way for Volvo to show workshop personnel how the company values the hard work carried out in its workshops across the world, and how it invests in them to perform beyond world-class standards. This is one way Volvo Trucks nurtures its employees and allows them to grow in terms of technical skills and knowledge. These skills will in turn benefit customers in aftersales, where it would be put to good use in diagnosing any issues pertaining to Volvo Trucks and Buses sent for repairs.

The VISTA world finals took place on 2016 and Team Harju from Finland are the VISTA 2015-2016 world champions after successfully defending their title at the world final in Gothenburg, Sweden.Team Harju also won in VISTA 2012-2013 and they are the first team to win the prestigious award twice.

The VISTA world final was held at the Volvo Training Center in Gothenburg, Sweden, birthplace and headquarters of Volvo Trucks. In total 32 teams, representing every continent, took part in an intensive day of competition that involved completing eight work station tasks, each within 30 minutes.

I do not think that the 32 finalists (6 teams from Asia Pacific - from 24 regional finalists) did not go back empty handed. Teams from the Asia Pacific region may not have won any places but it is sometimes the experience that they will garner from such international levels of competition that is as important as winning. They now know how it is like to 'play' globally and this in turn would make them improve themselves in time to come. And who benefits? Obviously those that use their skills in after sales services.

development tool where teams are tested also on their ability to work together, solve problems

together and meet Volvo’s required standards,” Michel elaborated.
