SAIC Motor Malaysia, who sell MG cars here, has launched the all-new locally assembled MG ZS compact SUV/Crossover, with two engine options. These are the MG ZS 1.5 Turbo and MG ZS Hybrid+ and they are priced at RM103,900 and RM109,900 respectively (Peninsula Malaysia, excluding insurance).
If you decide to book early, those who book either MG ZS variant can enjoy early-bird reward worth RM3,000 and 5 years free maintenance. Additionally, from now until the 31 December 2026, customers purchasing the MG ZS 1.5 Turbo can also benefit from a special financing package in collaboration with Hong Leong Bank and Bank Rakyat, while MG ZS Hybrid+ buyers will receive an extra RM3,000 year-end reward on top of the early-bird benefits. Emory Qi, Managing Director of SAIC Motor Malaysia, said the MG ZS offers a compelling proposition in the compact SUV market, giving customers a choice between turbocharged petrol performance and hybrid efficiency. The company is optimistic that the launch of the new MG ZS will further strengthen its presence in the segment.
With this, Malaysians have another decent looking and equipped compact SUV as an option. The ZS looks like it is designed with the urban commuter in mind and the thereabouts RM109k pricing because of local assembly adds more competition to the popular RM100-120k price range that most of these non-national car makers are vying for.
The MG ZS features a distinctive front fascia, complemented by Connected Hunter Eyes headlights and black grille accents. Its exterior styling is further defined by aerodynamic body sculpting, rear LED taillights, a rear spoiler and contemporary 18-inch alloy wheels. Both variants are available in four exterior colours: Flare Red, Silver, Andes Grey and York White.
The MG ZV is 4,430mm in length and 1,818mm in width, the MG ZS offers a spacious cabin with an ergonomic layout, intelligent storage solutions, generous headroom and legroom, and 30 storage compartments throughout the cabin.
The all-black interior features perforated leatherette seats, with ventilation available for both front seats. The driver-focused cockpit is equipped with a panoramic sunroof, a 12.3-inch floating infotainment display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, and a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster, bringing entertainment, connectivity and essential driving information together in one intuitive layout.
Designed to balance driving comfort and handling, both variants feature suspension systems incorporating ultra-high-stiffness, lightweight materials and three driving modes: Eco, Normal and Sport, allowing drivers to adapt their driving experience to different conditions and preferences.
The MG ZS provides 443 litres of boot space, expandable to 1,457 litres with the rear seats folded down, offering flexibility for daily errands, family outings and longer journeys.
Advanced Safety and Smart Connectivity
The MG ZS earned a five-star ANCAP safety rating and is equipped with MG PILOT Driver Safety Technology, featuring 16 driver assistance functions, including Intelligent Headlight Control and Intelligent Cruise Control.
Complementing these features is MG iSMART, which enables owners to remotely access and control selected vehicle functions through their smartphones, including keyless entry, adding convenience to everyday ownership.
MG ZS 1.5 Turbo: Responsive Petrol Performance
The MG ZS 1.5 Turbo is powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine featuring direct injection and an all-aluminium construction, delivering a maximum output of 170PS (125kW) and 275Nm of torque. Paired with an eight-speed high-performance CVT designed to handle torque loads of up to 325Nm, the powertrain is engineered for responsive performance and long-term durability.
With a combined fuel consumption figure of 6.9 litres per 100km and a 55-litre fuel tank, the MG ZS 1.5 Turbo offers a balance of performance and practicality for drivers seeking a conventional petrol-powered SUV.
MG ZS Hybrid+ ‘LIFE + MORE’: More of What Matters Most
Reflecting MG’s ‘LIFE + MORE’ philosophy, the MG ZS Hybrid+ combines power, efficiency, and comfort to enhance every journey.
Powered by a 1.5-litre Atkinson cycle four-cylinder petrol engine paired with a 100kW electric motor, supported by a 1.83kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) battery– a battery chemistry used in relatively few B-segment hybrid SUVs. The hybrid system delivers a combined maximum output of 215PS (158kW) and 465Nm of torque. Paired with a three-speed dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT), it accelerates from 0 to 100km/h in 8.7 seconds while achieving a fuel consumption figure of 4.7 litres per 100km.
With eight propulsion modes, a 41-litre fuel tank and a driving range of up to 870km, the MG ZS Hybrid+ balances efficiency and convenience for daily commutes and longer journeys without external charging. Under suitable driving conditions, it can also operate in electric-only mode at speeds of up to 80km/h, delivering a quieter, EV-like driving experience.
Comprehensive Warranty Coverage
For the first 3,000 customers, SAIC Motor Malaysia offers both MG ZS variants an upgraded warranty coverage package with a seven-year, unlimited-mileage vehicle warranty. The MG ZS hybrid battery is covered by an eight-year, 160,000km warranty, providing added peace of mind for long-term ownership.
