BENTLEY KUALA LUMPUR CELEBRATES 25 YEARS OF BENTLEY IN MALAYSIA WITH THE LAUNCH OF THE FLYING SPUR HYBRID

It has been a good 25 years for Bentley here in Malaysia. The brand has grown from strength to strength and persevered throughout the years to bring some truly great brand experiences to its loyal customers in Malaysia. So in conjunction with the anniversary, Bentley Kuala Lumpur has previewed the latest variant of their limousine, the 2023 Bentley Flying Spur Hybrid. Aside from bringing a hybrid Bentley, it also signals the market’s maturity in charging infrastructure and a move for the brand to be carbon neutral. Bentley Kuala Lumpur like its parent company has started on its journey to achieve carbon neutrality by 2023.

So what's new about this opulent sedan car? Well, the 2023 Bentley Flying Spur Hybrid was previewed earlier today in its left-hand drive form for customers to view and to register their interest. It features a new hybrid petrol engine and electric motor combination. The new combined powertrain delivers  a combined output of 544 PS (400 kW) and 750 Nm of torque provided by a 2.9-litre, twin turbocharged V6 petrol engine and the advanced electric motor.  The Flying Spur Hybrid has a manufacturer's estimated range of 800 km (when fully fuelled) and has an an average carbon emissions of just 75g of CO2 emissions per kilometre (WLTP)

So the hybrid powertrain is what's new in this latest Bentley. Aside from that, the usual refinements of what could be the best luxury car sold in Malaysia is as expected with acres of leather and wood inside together with all the creature comforts like the infotainment system, all electric everything, like the seats, controls and all the stuff you need. And more.

Heritage too. This is what a Bentley is for in some ways. It is about joining a club, making new experiences in something that cannot be described as just premium but something more. Travelling in luxury in something that has a ton of heritage is also a good thing.

Aside from that, the Flying Spur in my opinion has the best exterior styling of all the recent 4 door Bentleys that have been launched in recent years. There is that swooping coke bottle sides and that mesh styled grille up front and that Flying B crowning its nose. All make for a majestic looking package to me.

The recommended retail price of the Bentley Flying Spur Hybrid starts from RM 945,000 (excluding duties, taxes, and registration) and is also available in the Azure and S variants. Note that this base price is before options and customisation The Flying Spur Hybrid is now available for order. However, at its launch preview, all available models of the Flying Spur Hybrid for the upcoming year or two have been taken up.

Somehow I am not surprised these days.

(Kuala Lumpur, 19TH October 2022) Bentley Kuala Lumpur celebrates 25 years of Bentley in Malaysia by announcing the arrival of the Flying Spur Hybrid, marking the country's readiness for Bentley’s ground-breaking Beyond100 strategy which envisions an end-to-end carbon neutral future by 2030, and climate positive operations thereafter.

Tracing its origins since 1997, the Bentley brand has grown from strength to strength within the ultraluxury segment, bringing unique Bentley experiences to the country – from flying-in the legendary Bentley 3 Litre Speed for the viewing pleasure of loyal customers, to hosting the ‘World of Bentley’ exhibition featuring the record-breaking Continental Supersports Convertible.

The arrival of the Flying Spur Hybrid heralds a new era of electrified Bentley models in Malaysia. Built on the highly successful third generation Flying Spur, the hybrid model uses a highly innovative combination powertrain to deliver the most efficient Bentley ever produced (at an average of just 75g of CO2 emissions per kilometre, according toWLTP cycles).

The introduction of the Flying Spur Hybrid establishes a family of Bentley hybrids, emphasising Bentley’s commitment to its Beyond100 strategy to become an end-to- end carbon neutral organisation and the world’s leading sustainable luxury mobility company while still retaining the refined serenity, regardless or driving mode or style, a hallmark of Crewe’s creations.

Combining a powerful 2.9-litre, twin-turbocharged V6 engine with an advanced electric motor produces an impressive total output of 544 PS (400 kW) and 750 Nm of torque, running the century sprint (0-100 km/h) in only 4.3 seconds, easily matching traditional W12 and V8 powertrains. In terms of range, the hybridised powertrain achieves a responsive, engaging, and supremely refined experience over 800 km (when fully fuelled) thanks to an 18 kWh (usable capacity) lithium-ion battery.

The new Flying Spur incorporates a class-leading portfolio of intelligent and intuitive equipment tailored to the driver and passengers. Inside the cabin, the automatic Start-Stop switch has been replaced with a control for the three E Modes – EV Drive, Hybrid Mode, and Hold Mode, enabling the driver to manage the battery usage during a journey. EV Drive mode is engaged as soon as the car is switched on and maximises the electric driving experience. This is ideal for city driving and for shorter journeys.

The driver instruments include information showing when the car is operating solely in EV drive, regenerating whilst deaccelerating or using the combustion engine. The flow of energy can also be displayed via the infotainment screen where statistics can be seen and the timers for charging of the vehicle can be set. Additional e-motion information is available to the driver via the instrument panel, heads up display and centre screen, including range, battery level and charging information.

Exterior visual differences for the Flying Spur Hybrid include a ‘Hybrid’ front fender badge, quad oval tailpipes, and a covered universal charging point on the left-hand rear fender.

The Flying Spur Hybrid is delivered with market specific cables, facilitating charging of the vehicle at the home or via industrial charge points at work or in public car parks. In addition to the standard equipment supplied, customers can also choose a Bentley charging dock available as a cost option, providing an attractive solution housing the charge unit and storing the charge cables neatly.
