Mercedes-Benz Malaysia presents their future of electric mobility with three new models from the Mercedes-EQ family and their official prices for the Malaysian market. The Mercedes-EQ is their fully electric range of premium, luxury cars tops out with the EQS, the S-Class full electric luxury car and now we have two SUVs, the EQB, which is the B-Class equivalent. Aside from that, there is also an EQC, if you want that C-Class type of SUV (aka the GLC). All were previewed, or launched in July 2022 but official prices have only been confirmed today.
The 2022 Mercedes-EQ EQS is the first all-electric luxury sedan from Mercedes-EQ to be based on themodular architecture for the luxury electric vehicle segment, fusing luxury, technology, design, functionality and connectivity, designed to delight both drivers and passengers. It is available as a sole variant, the EQS 450+ is rated at 245 kW (WLTP combined electrical consumption: 19.8 – 15.7 kWh/100km; CO2 emissions: 0 g/km) with a WLTP range of up to 782km. The 2022 EQB 350 4MATIC is the brand’s all-electric compact SUV with up to seven seats, offering space for many family configurations and practicality. It interprets Mercedes-EQ’s progressive luxury in an edgy and particularly a characterful way.
As for the EQC, the EQC 400 4MATIC is not just a vehicle with electric drive. It combines all the attributes of the brand with quality, safety and comfort with avant-garde and distinct aesthetics.
All Details are in the official Press Release below (with more photos):
Kuala Lumpur. Mercedes-Benz Malaysia further cements its position to Lead in Electric with the
continuation of its product offensive strategy. With the introduction of three new models added to
the progressive luxury electric vehicles from the Mercedes-EQ sub-brand, the company commits
to pave the way for an electric future in Malaysia, in line with its global direction to go all-electric by
the end of the decade, where market conditions allow.
Sagree Sardien, President and CEO, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia said, “Mercedes-Benz Malaysia
maintains its momentum towards a sustainable future with the launch of the new additions to the
Mercedes-EQ family. Our electric initiative is in full swing. We are committed to “Lead in Electric”
with a holistic well-rounded approach towards a sustainable tomorrow in Malaysia.”
Michael Jopp, Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia said, “The
electric vehicles offerings from the Mercedes-EQ family defines the future of luxury vehicles in
Malaysia. The EQS is the first all-electric luxury sedan from Mercedes-EQ. With our EQS, we have
created a completely new, future generation of luxury cars. The EQS is also the first model to be
based on the modular architecture for luxury and executive-class electric vehicles. With it, together
comes the EQB and EQC, offering an exciting option to complement every lifestyle of our
customers.”
The EQS: the first electric vehicle in the luxury class
The EQS is the first all-electric luxury saloon from Mercedes-EQ. With it, Mercedes-EQ is
redefining this vehicle segment.
Innovative aesthetics in unmistakable purpose design: The exterior design
The EQS is also the first model to be based on the modular architecture for luxury and executive-
class electric vehicles. The innovative and holistic design is based on a new vehicle architecture. It
differs from vehicles with internal combustion engines at first glance: highest demands on function
and aerodynamics are combined with innovative aesthetics in the unmistakable purpose design.
Sensual Purity is reflected in generously modelled surfaces, reduced joints and seamless
transitions (seamless design).
The sporty, low and slim front of the EQS forms a coupé-like silhouette with a bow (one bow)
stretched tightly over the greenhouse. The A-pillar, which has been moved far forward, and the C-
pillar at the rear generate space for a generous passenger compartment. Unique in this segment is
the cab-forward design: the overhangs and the front-end assembly are short, the rear is smoothly
rounded.
With a lot of meticulous detail work and on the basis of the purpose design, the aerodynamicists in
close cooperation with the designers were able to achieve a new C d benchmark of 0.20. This
makes the EQS the most aerodynamic production car in the world. The operating range
particularly benefits from this. It is also among the best in terms of quiet running. The very low
wind noise level contributes significantly to this.
The all new EQS 450+ comes equipped with the AMG line exterior and body styling and features a
53.3 cm (21-inch) AMG multi-spoke light-alloy wheels. The radiator grille marks a bold claim with
the Mercedes-Benz pattern along with the panoramic sunroof making this luxury electric sedan
stand out from the rest. The EQS 450+ is furnished with the DIGITAL LIGHT package featuring the
Digital Lighting itself, continuous reflector strips on the front, and Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus.
For ultimate comfort and tranquility
Electric Art interior allows you to experience progressive luxury with all the senses. This includes
Ambient lighting as a standard, allowing drivers to showcase the interior according to your
personal preferences or current mood. The 64 colours of the ambient lighting create exciting
colour schemes, and paired with the Active Ambient lighting allows passengers to experience a
technological leap visually as it links aesthetics with innovative driver information and extended
functions. Wraparound light strips and trim elements amalgamate to form an additional lighting
level. This also supports driving assistance systems visually, thus emphasising the intelligence of
the vehicle.
With Comfort Seats, the EQS 450+ adds velour floor mats and a roof liner in black fabric and
blending comfort with technology, the Multifunction steering wheel wrapped in nappa leather with
galvanised steering-wheel gearshift paddles in silver chrome. The electric luxury sedan is finessed
in an Anthracite line structure lime wood trim, and an anthracite open-pored line structure line
wood centre console.
The EQS 450+ will feature upholstery in Nappa leather black along with power front seats with
memory function. The KEYLESS-GO Comfort Package will also be included featuring the
HANDS-FREE ACCESS. The luxury electric sedan will also include a rear MBUX tablet and a
wireless charging system for mobile devices in the rear. THRMOTRONIC automatic climate
control, EASY-PACK tailgate and load compartment cover will be included.
Adding on to the comfort is the Acoustic Comfort package and the adaptive rear compartment
lighting with the interior Light package. Pull-out sun visors and an illuminated door sill panels with
the Mercedes-Benz lettering adds to the elegance of the vehicle featuring heat-insulating, noise-
insulating and infrared-reflecting laminated glass. For further convenience the EQS 450+ will
include the USB Package Plus, a wireless charging system for mobile devices and a stowage
compartment beneath the centre console.
Powerful cell chemistry meets intelligent software
The EQS marks the launch of a new generation of batteries with significantly higher energy
density. It has a usable energy content of around 107.8 kWh. The innovative battery management
software, developed in-house, allows updates over the air (OTA). In this way, the energy
management system remains up to date throughout the life cycle. In terms of the cell chemistry,
the cobalt content of the cathodes has been reduced to ten percent.
With ranges up to 782 kilometres (WLTP), the drive of the EQS also meets every expectation of
a progressive saloon in the S-Class segment.
In terms of recuperation, too, the EQS is excellent: of the maximum deceleration in the DAuto
recuperation program of 5 m/s², up to 3 m/s² is achieved by recuperation (2 m/s² by the service
brakes). This allows deceleration to a standstill without using the brake pedal, while at the same
time the range benefits from this recuperation strategy and the high recuperation power (up to 290
kW). Deceleration is also applied to detected vehicles ahead until they come to a standstill, for
example at traffic lights. Intelligent recuperation is situation-optimised with the aid of ECO Assist
and acts with foresight, taking into account traffic conditions or topography, among other things.
The driver can additionally set three recuperation levels and the gliding function via shift paddles
on the steering wheel.
The EQS 450+ allows the alternating current charging system supporting up to 11 kW and drect
current charging system supporting up to 200 kW. As a standard a charging cable will be given for
wall box or public charging stations, measuring at five meters. The EQS 450+ for the first-time,
features rear-axle steering for manoeuvring made easier, the AIRMATIC package, and adding to
the technological advancements, suspensions with adaptive damping system.
The luxury electric sedan will also include DYNAMIC SELECT and the Pedestrian protection
bringing the car to a halt when sensors pick up pedestrian movement in its path. Safety does not
only include the car and driver but also the safety of pedestrians. Since there is no engine sound
to alert a pedestrian of your presence, the car is fitted with an Acoustic presence indicator so that
your electric vehicle does not pose a danger to pedestrians and bike riders when driving virtually
silently. The acoustic presence indicator generates specific Mercedes-Benz sounds outside of the
vehicle up to a speed of approx. 30 km/h. As part of this it differentiates between driving forwards
and reversing.
As an exceptionally intelligent vehicle, the EQS has up to 350 sensors, depending on the
equipment. These record distances, speeds and accelerations, lighting conditions, precipitation
and temperatures, seat occupancy as well as the driver's blink of an eye or the passengers'
speech. This wealth of information is processed by control units that, controlled by algorithms,
make decisions at lightning speed. So they are the brain, so to speak. The new EQS can expand
its capabilities based on new experiences, because it is highly capable of learning thanks to
artificial intelligence (AI).
Intelligent support while driving
At Mercedes-Benz, safety has always been at the forefront of everything we do. The EQS 450+
comes with the Driving Assistance Plus Package including Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC,
Active Lane Keeping Assist, Active Steering Assist, Evasive manoeuvre support, PRE-SAFE®
impulse side and Rear sensors for the lane departure assistant.
For even greater assistance, the EQS 450+ will have the URBAN GUARD vehicle protection
featuring an Anti-theft alarm system, and an Interior monitoring system accessible through the
Mercedes me app. The Parking Package includes a 360-degree camera ad brings with it the
Active Parking Assist with the vehicle also including the Mirror package for the Interior mirror and
driver's exterior mirror to automatically dim, Electrically folding exterior mirrors and of course
Ambient lighting with projection of the Mercedes-Benz brand logo.
The EQS 450+ will have the standard Tyre pressure monitoring system, TIREFIT along with
Window airbags and Knee airbags for a higher safety standard. The vehicle also includes the
PRE-SAFE® system, beltbag and the Mercedes-Benz emergency call system.
Extensive personalisation and exceptionally intelligent
Our biggest advancement in visual technology is exemplified here with the debut of the MBUX
Hyperscreen. Featuring a fingerprint scanner, the MBUX multimedia system and an OLED front
passenger display, the MBUX Hyperscreen is one of the main highlights in the EQS 450+. The
MBUX Hyperscreen is surrounded by a continuous plastic front frame. Its visible part is painted in
an elaborate three-layer process in "Silver Shadow". This coating system achieves a particularly
high-quality surface impression due to extremely thin intermediate layers. The integrated ambient
lighting installed in the lower part of the MBUX Hyperscreen makes the display unit appear to float
on the instrument panel.
The passenger also has its own display and operating area, which makes travel more pleasant
and entertaining. With up to seven profiles, it is possible to customize the content. However, the
entertainment functions of the passenger display are only available during the journey within the
framework of the country-specific legal regulations. If the passenger seat is not occupied, the
screen becomes a digital decorative part. In this case, animated stars, i.e. the Mercedes-Benz
Pattern, are displayed.
For a particularly brilliant image, OLED technology is used in central and passenger displays. This
is where the individual image points are self-luminous; non-controlled image pixels remain
switched off, which means that they appear deep black. The active OLED pixels, on the other
hand, radiate with high color brilliance, resulting in high contrast values, regardless of the angle of
view and the lighting conditions.
This electrifying display appearance goes hand in hand with emotionally appealing visualisation.
All the graphics are styled in a new blue/orange colour scheme throughout. The classic cockpit
display with two circular instruments has been reinterpreted with a digital laser sword in a glass
lens.
Thanks to its clear screen design with anchor points, the MBUX Hyperscreen is intuitive and easy
to operate. An example of this is the display style EV mode. Important functions of the electric
drive such as boost or recuperation are visualized in a new way, with a spatially moving clasp, and
thus made tangible. A lens-shaped object moves between these clamps. It follows gravity and thus
depicts the G-Force forces impressively and emotionally.
The EQS 450+ is more than just a car, it is your personal assistant with the MBUX Interior
Assistant both in the front and rear and the MBUX Navigation Premium allowing extended MBUX
functions. The EQS 450+ also includes the MBUX augmented reality for navigation, MBUX High-
End Rear Seat Entertainment System, 2 wireless headsets, Pre-installation for Remote and
Navigation Services, Smartphone Integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The all-round sound experience in the EQS also makes the paradigm shift from a conventional to
an electric car audible. A variety of soundscapes allows for an individual acoustic set-up. In
combination with the Burmester® 3D surround sound system, the EQS features the two
soundscapes Silver Waves and Vivid Flux. As Sound Experiences they can be selected or
switched off on the central display. Another soundscape can be unlocked using over-the-air
technology. The interactive driving sound, which is reproduced via the sound system's speakers in
the interior, also moves within the respective sound world.
Further reducing the carbon footprint with green power
As part of its "Ambition 2039" initiative, Mercedes-Benz is working on offering a carbon-neutral
new car fleet within 20 years from now. The company aims to go all electric by the end of the
decade where market conditions allow. In many areas, Mercedes is already thinking about
tomorrow today: the new EQS is designed to be correspondingly sustainable. The vehicles are
produced in a carbon-neutral manner, and resource-saving materials such as carpets made from
recycled yarn are used. This is because Mercedes-Benz considers the entire value chain, from
development and the supplier network to its own production. Mercedes-Benz AG has had its
climate protection targets confirmed by the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTI).
