Hyundai Sime Darby Motors (HSDM) has informed that they will be launching the 10 seater variant for the spaceship inspired Hyundai Staria. While they like to call it a spaceship, I think that it is more akin to the head of a Shinkansen high speed train. But what ever the case, it looks very futuristic and now you can order one with more seats by the fourth quarter of 2022.
The 177ps 2.2liter turbodiesel Staria features striking looks and lots more performance than the local favourites - the Toyota Alphard and Vellfire. Those that have drive a 2.2liter Starex or a Santa Fe would know what I am talking about but one should also factor in how unique it looks. It looks like a breath of fresh air in the sea of Toyota MPVs we find everywhere.
Anyway, HSDM has stated that the new 10 seater Staria will come in at around RM170K++++++ in which I think it would be in the high 170k range from what is offered. However, HSDM is only asking for a RM1,000 booking fee if you are interested.
Quite an interesting proposition this new Staria.
OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE
PETALING JAYA, 14 September 2022 – Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors (HSDM) will be introducing a new 10-seater variant for Hyundai's spaceship-inspired MPV, Staria, in the fourth quarter of 2022.
According to Mr. Low Yuan Lung, Managing Director of HSDM, the 10-seater Staria is a much-anticipated MPV after the introduction of the luxurious 7-seater variant last year.
“We have been getting enquiries for the 10-seater variant as there has been anticipation that the 10-seater variant will replace the Starex. Like the Starex, this 10-seater variant is ideal for big families, tour operators and businesses but with vast improvements and more functionalities in every aspect of the vehicle as compared to the Starex,” he said.
Featuring Hyundai’s new design language that is futuristic and iconic, the Staria evokes the streamlinedform of a spaceship. Its sleek exterior is defined by a single stroke running from front to rear — inspired by the curve of light that illuminates the Earth’s horizon at sunrise when viewed from space.
The Staria’s front is embellished with horizontal daytime running lights (DRLs) and a positioning lamp on its front, both running across the width of the vehicle. This is complemented by a bold, wide radiator grille with a unique pattern.
Its clean silhouette is further accented by a pair of low-set headlamps. Hyundai uses the same body color for all frontal parts to maximise the vehicle’s modern and pure style. Its rear design emphasises brevity and sleekness, parametric pixel rear lamp and a large rear glass.
Its generous legroom is among the best in its segment and can be converted into expansive additional cargo space when all seats are pushed together, made possible by the versatile long sliding seat function. Moreover, the full-flat mode applied to rear passenger seats of the 10-seater Staria, makes this vehicle the perfect choice for activities that require a lot of room and interior flexibility, such as camping and for equipment-intensive transportation.
The 10-seater is a diesel-powered 2.2 CRDi engine that is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. It delivers an estimated power output of 177PS and 431Nm of torque. Its high-efficiency, air-cooled turbocharger has an improved compressor and turbine wheel performance for better low speed torque performance.
Available in three variants, namely Lite, Plus and Max. Pricing is estimated to start from RM17X,XXX with a booking fee of RM1,000.
Interested parties can now walk into any authorised Hyundai showrooms to place a booking.
