2020 Volkswagen Passat R-Line is Now Open For Bookings - Prices Estimated Between RM200K To RM210K

Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) is now accepting pre-bookings for the new Passat R-Line. The sportier big brother of the Passat Elegance, the new Passat R-Line is also locally assembled and is expected to be priced between RM200,000 to RM210,000. The annoucement and the preview of this new variant was made during the recent launch of the new Tiguan Allspace R-Line and Highlilne models as well as the new Arteon R-Line sports fastback recently.

The R-Line is Volkswagen's sportier trim line for their cars. It adds more sporty looking trim, sometimes sportier suspension, larger wheels while still providing great value. Not an all out performance model, but more of a sprinkling of sporty stuff which most actually want over actual brimstone and hellfire. Just the looks will do. The Passat R-Line is the second R-Line model offered by VPCM here after the Golf R-Line. 

The upcoming Passat R-Line has the usual sporty touches. It features new R-Line front and rear bumpers, side R-Line badge, chrome trims and 19” Verona alloy wheels. As for the interior, R-Line trim is evident on the Nappa carbon-style black leather seats, steering wheel and aluminium sports pedals. So you take the Passat Elegance (which is the latest variant launched here) and add a tad bit more sportiness to the package especially in the visual department for a slight increase in price.

The 2020 Malaysian specced Passat R-Line gets a new 2.0TSI turbocharged engine that produces 190PS and torque of 320Nm. It is coupled to a new and improved 7-speed wet clutch direct shift gearbox (DSG) which drives the front wheels. It should actually be quite entertaining if you do push it a little harder than usual. With the R-Line bits, it actually looks a bit faster too. And you may actually feel faster while you drive it too.

Other notable features are the Side Assist safety feature with 180-degree detection range of up to 50 metres; and Rear Traffic Alert which warns drivers reversing out of parking spaces of vehicles approaching at an angle of 90 degrees.

For driver connectivity, the Passat R-Line fitted with Volkswagen’s Discover Pro infotainment system with a 9.2” touchscreen. Convenient features include voice control, gesture control, a customizable three-view split screen and Wireless App-Connect with Apple Car Play.

The Passat R-Line will be available in six colours. Metallic colours are Aquamarine Blue, Tamarind Brown, Manganese Grey and Reflex Silver; and two pearl-effect colours are also available at no additional charge, Deep Black and Oryx White.

Quite a good addition to the line-up as it gives the customer more choice in terms of how the Passat looks. The current generation still looks fresh and with this new R-Line variant, it gets even better.
