The 7 Seater Volkswagen Allspace family is Finally Launched in Malaysia - 2.0TSI 4Motion Allspace R-Line and 1.4TSI Allspace Highline Now Available

Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) has launched the all-new 2020 Tiguan Allspace 7 seat SUV line-up. Two variants will be available - the Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace Highline 1.4TSI and the Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace R-Line 2.0TSI. Both are locally assembled at the Volkswagen plant in Pekan, Pahang and are competitively priced at RM164,430.75 and RM208,553.79 respectively until the 31st of December 2020. Finally a 7 seater Tiguan for those that actually want more space.

The Tiguan Allspace is an extended wheelbase version of the Tiguan, and actually spots slightly different front front and rear ends. It also has longer rear doors and also a longer rear overhang compared to the 5 seater Tiguan. It basically has a longer wheelbase and slightly different character lines.

The exterior styling is accentuated with a significantly higher bonnet position with sharper lines that run across the bonnet and front bumper giving it a stronger stance. The longer wheelbase of the Tiguan Allspace makes the Tiguan look bigger and it is more versatile with multiple seating options. With the third-row seats folded, the available boot space is at 700 litres and with both seat rows folded, the SUV offers a massive boot space of 1,775 litres, the best in its segment.

The rearmost seats, whilst a tighter fit for adults taller than 5 foot 8 inches (172cm) and above can still be used for children and even smaller adults in a pinch. You could fit a guy who is about 180cm in the third row, but he or she will suffer a little. But this is actually an incredibly good option for those that want a more versatile Volkswagen SUV.

The seven-seater in its R-Line 2.0TSI form is actually quite appealing. It features all-wheel drive 4Motion setup which ensures all weather traction and that punchy 2.0liter engine. It is the sportiest Volkswagen SUV to be offered and with the R-Line trim, is also one of the nicest looking ones.

True to its R-Line legacy, the Tiguan Allspace R-Line in this trim gets 19” Sebring alloy wheels, which feeds an impressive output of 220PS and torque of 350Nm to the road via the 4Motion all-wheel drive system from a wet clutch dual clutch DSG transmission.

The interior features Volkswagen's Digital Cockpit and 9.2” Discover Pro infotainment system in this variant..

The Volkswagen R-Line variants take inspiration from the Volkswagen performance R range. The R-Line range is a sporty styling package fitted onto the vehicle to give it an extra edge in creating an overall sportier look while maintaining great value. And they do seem to give good value in terms of performance and price especially since it now offers more seats and that attractive locally assembled pricing.

RM15,000 over the 5 seat Tiguan 1.4TSI gets up those extra seats in the 1.4TSI variant and also some nice equipment levels (photo above). The extra in the 2.0TSI R-Line variant gets you that interesting 220PS, all wheel drive, 7 seats and that R-Line trim. Quite an attractive purchase if you factor in the horsepower that is offered at only RM210k or thereabouts. Add 3 years free maintenance and 5 years of warranty, it is quite an offer.

Erik Winter, Managing Director of VPCM says that the growing SUV market in Malaysia offers a ripe opportunity for the Tiguan Allspace. “The SUV segment in Malaysia has grown by 65% and we believe it will continue to drive and lead the auto market. With the addition of the two Tiguan Allspace variants, Volkswagen will be able to cater to different SUV seekers by offering them a German engineered seven-seater option, with performance that is unrivalled."

There is currently a Volkswagen roadshow over at the Oval podium in One Utama shopping centre in Petaling Jaya from now till the weekend.
