Subaru XV GT Edition Launched in Malaysia - New XV Variant for RM130,788 OTR without Insurance

TC Subaru, the distributor of Subaru in Malaysia has just launched the 2019 Subaru XV GT Edition. This is one that sits above the XV 2.0i-P variant and gets a special aero kit and other extra bits for about RM4,000 over the price of the XV 2.0i-P. It costs RM130,788 OTR without insurance in Peninsula Malaysia and was designed in collaboration with Giken Co Ltd and Mr Masahiko 'Jack' Kobayashi, who used to be the former Chief Designed at Subaru.

This special edition isn't a limited edition model. It more like sits above the current XV line-up here and offers buyers something extra for their XV. The Subaru XV GT Edition will come with a body kit that is different from the ones previous seen or offered. The Giken Co Ltd aerokit gets a new front bumper lip extension, a rear bumper lip extension, a roof spoiler and rear bumper extension. It also adds new style 17 inch alloy wheels with the same 225/60 17 tyre size.

The interior gets new leather trim with two colour stitching and two tone leather. It also gets special to the XV GT Edition floor mats too. Aside from that, it gets a dual side view monitor system, which makes this XV have more than just a rear view camera. Still not a 360 degree view, but actually more than good enough for parking and maneuvering in tight spaces.

Other than that, the car is the same as the XV 2.0i-P with a 2.0liter direct injection, normally aspirated boxer engine, CVT gearbox and all-wheel drive setup. It makes 156ps and 196Nm of torque. Notable equipment includes an 8inch infotainment system with navigation, hill hold assist, smart entry and push start button as well as paddle shifters for the occasion when you want that little bit more sportiness in your life.

Now a bit on Jack Kobayashi. This ex-Subaru Head of Subaru's Global Design Studio was a 25year veteran with the brand. There, he designed and oversaw the design of numerous models like the Subaru Outback models which included the Legacy and Impreza cars. Prior to his leaving the brand to become an independent designer he worked on the WRX, WRX STI, Levorg and the first generation XV. So he would be a chap who fully understands what makes a Subaru look like a Subaru.

As for Giken Co Ltd, the company is a global supplier of aero-parts and other passenger car components to Subaru as well as other major car brands. It has been designing car parts since 1964 and would be a good place to start as a source for this slightly more unique XV variant for this market (which essentially includes the whole of Southeast Asia).

According to TC Subaru, the new Subaru XV GT Edition can be viewed at the Subaru Petaling Jaya showroom from now and at all Subaru showrooms in Malaysia from the 16th of May 2019.
