Spotted for Sale: Proton Satria Neo R3 Lotus Racing - Own a 'Lotus' for RM65,000

"Like my new  Lotus?" asked Mr A

"What Lotus? Where?Where got Lotus? All I see is a Satria Neo lah." replied Mr B

Yup. This must have been the dialogue between the chap who bought that obscenely expensive Proton Satria Neo R3 Lotus Racing for RM115,000 in 2010. Even if you brag about the fact that you can afford to spend your money on a RM115,000 Satria Neo would never impress your friends. They'll just think you did not take your meds for the day. This was at a time when the Satria Neo CPS cost somewhere in the region of RM60,000.

The original online ad for the RM115,000 Proton Satria

The Lotus Racing had an tuned engine with revised intake, exhaust, hotter cams, a reprogrammed ECU, really expensive Ohlins suspension, different wheels and a funny green (supposed to be Lotus green) dashboard.with leather seats that look like seatcovers instead of something really sporty like bucketseats. It could do 0-100kmh in 9.5seconds and had a top speed of 205kmh. Not very fast actually. But it was 1.0seconds faster than the standard manual CPS version at the time.

I called Proton bonkers last time for charging so much for a Proton with some tuning parts. Nearly 100% increase in price for bits that you could get separately. Of course you could get bragging rights that in the JPJ (RTD) car registration card it has the words 'Lotus' officially put as the make of the model. But that's about it really.

Anyway, nows the chance for any of you out there to actually buy the darn thing....for RM65,000. The price of a brand spanking new Satria Neo manual is around RM60,000 today. Still a good RM5,000 cheaper than this Proton-Lotus thingy you see here. You could actually save RM5,000 and help Proton by buying a brand new Satria Neo R3. This could be better as it has those slightly lower redesigned front seats that help with the ridiculous ergonomics. I would truly buy this over the Lotus Racing version you see here.

But if you're interested in buying the car for its Ohlins dampers and some bits, I suppose why not. Ohlins are bloody expensive. They cost over RM12,000 brand new. I suppose you could buy this car and brag to your friends that your car has Ohlins on them. This may impress them.

And the heck with trying to convince your friends that you bought a Lotus. They'll still just say you're bonkers.
