Honda S660 gossip - S660 Type R for Japan and S1000 for the global market

The Honda S660 is one of those Japan market only kei car coupes. Here it is pictured in Mugen form. It has about 64 hp from its VTEC 660cc engine. Small light and therefore nimble enough to feel like a proper MG Midget or Austin Sprite from the days gone by. But I think Honda are listening to global feedback with this car and is rumoured to have okayed  1000cc version of the car which will be sold globally. It will be called, get this, Honda S1000. Imagine calling it like the Honda S2000. Honda S1K. Cool eh?

Obvious isn't it? Anyway, 1,000cc and turbocharged too. Remember the Ford Fiesta EcoBoost? 1.0liter turbocharged engine that makes 125ps and about 170Nm torque? You get 1.6liter horses and 1.8liter torque figures. That's a pretty nice recipe for a supermini. Now imagine the same engine in an A segment coupe instead of a B segment hatchback. It's gonna be fun.

So I hope Honda does build the Honda S1000 and a rumoured S660 Type R variant for Japan too. Small capacity motoring is actually fun when done right. The S660 is done right and with a dose of steroids, could be better. I also hope that when the S1000 is built. Honda Malaysia will bring it for those VTEC fans here in Malaysia. A small but potent dose of kei car.
