The All-New Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV - Hybrid Flexibility for an estimated 1,200km range • Prices start from RM109,800 for PRIME variant, RM123,800 for PREMIUM variant and RM129,800 for PREMIUM PLUS variant BEFORE early bird rebates

Sometime in the midle of January 2026, Proton New Energy Technology Sdn Bhd (PRO-NET), which is  PROTON's new energy vehicle arm, opened the Proton e.Mas 7 Plug In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV). We reported on it here with photos and all. Now, they have  officially launched the All-New Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV, which as you know, plugs in between fully electric and internal combustion engine vehicles. The notable fact about Hybrids is that they allow you an extended range and the flexibility of using fossil fuels to extend the range - here up to over 1,200km, and also they cater to those that are lazy to wait for long charging, or even top up times, at charging stations. An alternative, And Prices start from RM109,800 for PRIME variant, RM123,800 for PREMIUM variant and  RM129,800 for PREMIUM PLUS variant BEFORE early bird rebates (Early bird details are stated somewhere below).

Unlike earlier generations of hybrids and PHEVs, the all-new 2026 Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV has been designed as an electric-first vehicle. Its petrol engine serves primarily as a supporting energy source, engaging directly with the wheels only when it is more efficient, such as during highway cruising or long uphill drives. So it actually means that in commutes or traffic, it is possible to just run on the battery power for up to 170km. If you have your office, school run or coffee shop around 10km away, you could go fully electric most of the time.

Happy Merdeka Day - Tales of motoring since '57 and some advice to all Malaysians

Happy Merdeka Day. That's Happy Independence Day to those that do not understand Malay. Malaysia celebrates fifty seven years of independence today, well, with the small note that Sabah and Sarawak joined us a few years later in 1963. Anyway, the ride from 1957 to 2014 has been exciting, right?

Bizzare Malaysian Cow-Jacking makes UK Daily and you don't need a truck, a Proton Wira is all you need.

Malaysia is in the UK news again. This is a good thing, in a bad sort of way. I read this piece yesterday in the Harian Metro Malay tabloid newspaper. At first I didn't think nothing of it but this piece of news has reached the Dailymail.co.uk. A paper in the UK. If it came out all the way in the UK, it is important news to be shared with you readers out there.

What happened was that three really stupid crooks had drugged four (4) cows and stuffed all of them, I repeat, all of them cows, into a Proton Wira. Their caper came to an end as the Proton Wira died due to the excess weight some distance away from the farm of which they were stolen from.

More on my trip to Kuantan and something about New York's Yellow Cabs

As some of you readers may have read I was in Kuantan recently and this is a slightly more detailed write-up about it. Of course, I still left some bits out, mostly non-motoring. I took hundreds of shots, from a 16mp camera down to a 2mp camera phone. This mostly came from a 5mp camera phone as downloading a lot of 16mp photos takes up bandwidth and a chunk of my data plan. But what these photographs do is tell the story.

And now, on something iconic. The yellow cabs in New York will be replaced in 2013 by Nissan Minivans. Sigh.

Genting at Sentosa or Genting at the Highlands? A motorhead's answer.

This was something I wrote for myautoblog.org. Singaporeans pay SG$100 before they can start gambling at Resorts World Sentosa (we can get in there and start losing money for free). So I have suggested that they come over to the Highlands and hit the twisties (the Jalan Gombak-old Bentong Road as an example) before they lose more of their money at the tables.
