GWM ORA 07 Launched - The fastback styled four door coupe comes in 2 variants from RM169,888 onwards with a very good warranty package with can run up to 8 years.

GWM, short for Great Wall Motors, have launched their latest EV, the Ora 07 streamline four door 'coupe'. This what I would call a neo-retro styled four door coupe is priced at RM169,800 for the long range variant and RM189,800 for the performance variant. Both come with an attractive warranty package for both battery and powertrain for up to 8 years. The 07 offers another choice for Malaysians that want to test the waters and try out a premium feeling battery powered electric vehicle.

As stated, the GWM Ora 07 will be offered in two variants, the Long Range Ultra and the Performance. The LRU, which I will now call the Long Range Ultra has its electric motor powering the front wheels. It makes 204ps and 340Nm torque with a 170kmh top speed. If driven properly, it is estimated to have a range of 640 km (NEDC) or what I would estimate that it will be 23 to 25% less if you use WLTP which is a little more real world in terms of range. So somewhere in the region of 480 to 500km is actually decent for a mid sized EV.

The other variant, the Ora 07 Performance is All-wheel drive, makes 408ps and 6980Nm torque. It has a shorter range of 550KM NEDC so we're thinking that it should work out to about 450km thereabouts. These seem to be ballpark figures for current EV ranges. Of course, it does have a better 0-100kmh time at 4.3seconds versus the 7.9seconds of the LRU. I actually prefer having more range though. Top speed is 180kmh (most likely limited to the single speed transmission like most EVs in this price range).

A notable point is the battery size for the 07. 83.499kWh which can be charged from 30% to 80% in 32 minutes vs DC fast charging. So the reason for the  better punch from the Performance variant is definitely the motor as well as the all-wheel drivetrain.

The Ora 07 comes with a fastback coupe styling with frameless windows for the doors. The front features a closed grille design and LED headlights. Very contemporary in terms of EV styling these days. The doors have hidden handles and there is also an electric rear spoiler for that added sporty styling. There is also a full length panoramic sunroof for the front and rear passengers to complete its looks. Of course, one must note that the LRU comes with 18 inch wheels while the Performance comes with 19inches.

The styling is very neo-retro. Or basically retro styling on a modern car. You get buy eyed lights up front which reminds you of something that would come out of Germany. From the brand that starts with V or from the brand that starts with P. The rear lights also seem to look like it take after a Bentley, but with a bulbous body styling. It actually is pretty unique, new retro looking and would stand out as it looks nothing like any new 4 door car out there today. Well, maybe like a slightly different looking Panamera, but there are touches there that differ enough I think. Of course, at the price offered, it is in another league right?

In terms of the interior, the ORA 07 looks modern. Notable equipment includes 50w wireless charging, ergonomic seatswith massage function up front, a good air ventilation system and 3.3kw vehicle to load V2L function which acts as a power outlet for charging outdoor camping or picnic appliances. Basically you can plug in a blender and the 07 should be able to make it work.

As for safety features, the ORA 07 is pretty good. They seem to be advertising the rigidness of the chassis which is made with lots of high tensile steel. Aside from that it is Level 2 autonomous and features Adaptive cruise control (ACC), Intelligent Cruise Assistance, Parking Distance Control and more safety features. Specifications are in line with what I would expect from a car in 2024-2025.

What I feel makes the ORA 07 good value for money (once the government decides on the road tax as current road tax exempt is till 2025) are the warranty packages. Full vehicle warranty is for 6 years or 150,000km. There also have 8 years or 180,000km on the battery, electric motor and electric motor control unit which ever comes first. There is also a 12 year rust and corrosion warranty (good for those living by the coast) and in addition, GWM Malaysia will offer a one to one battery replacement on condition that the battery's state of charge falls below 70%.

Aside from that, customers of the ORA 07 will also get a complimentary home wallbox charger and an additional 2 years warranty making it 8 years or 180,000 km which ever comes first for first 500 07 customers. So a lot of peace of mind is offered if you grab one soon. There is also a RM3,000 loyalty offer rebate for existing GWM customers who want to buy the 07.

The Ora 07 will be made available in three colours - grey purple and white. One can also opt for the brighter coloured light brown/orangey Performance interior in the LRU for an additional RM2500 instead of the black interior.
