Isuzu Malaysia Will Finally Be Launching the 3rd Generation D-Max and its coming This Month!

Isuzu Malaysia had announced on the 1st of April 2021 that the all-new Isuzu D-Max will be making its Malaysian debut in a few weeks. Finally, as this was launched 18 months ago in Thailand and most automotive pundits speculated that Malaysia would only get it in 2022. This is good news to those who like pickup trucks and also want something new from Isuzu.

Pre-launch bookings of the new model are already accepted at Isuzu dealerships nationwide. Speaking on the new D-Max, Chief Operating Officer of Isuzu Malaysia’s Light Commercial Division Mr Masayuki Suzuki had stated that Isuzu Malaysia managed to fast-track the launch of the all-new Isuzu D-Max because Isuzu Motors Ltd views Malaysia as a strategic market. So the Isuzu people over in Japan have finally heeded all those requests to bring in the latest D-Max. Currently, we got the previous generation model but one fitted with the latest engines (that can run our diesel).

“We are extremely thrilled that this impressive all-new Isuzu D-Max has been made available in Malaysia much earlier than expected. As the fifth country in the world to launch this model after its global introduction in Thailand, it stands as testament to the strong commitment from Isuzu Motors towards ensuring that the Malaysian market enjoys the latest selection of choice Isuzu vehicles,” Said Masayuki Suzuki.

This all-new 3rd generation Isuzu D-Max model has been developed to exceed the normal perimeters of a pick-up truck while still holding on to its core values. It was developed on a design theme of bold and sporty, with an aggressive looking frontal design and purposeful outline that exudes a more athletic and dynamic stance. It looks more chunky than the predecessor and has a more squared off frontal design. It also has larger overall dimensions that include a longer wheelbase, more spacious cabin and larger load bed for added versatility. The interior has also moved things along and looks plush (for a pickup truck) if you look at the photo taken from the Thailand variant of the new D-Max.

The new D-Max will be available in a variety of configurations including single or double cab guise and powered by a choice of the award-winning RZ-4E 1.9-litre powerplant or a revised 4JJ-3TCX 3-litre engine, which is still in strong demand over in East Malaysia.

The pickup truck scored a maximum 5 star rating in the 2020 ASEAN NCAP tests, the all-new Isuzu D-Max offers a new level of safety to offer improved protection for occupants as well as other road users. Aiding drivers will be a host of Advanced Driver Assist Systems (ADAS) available in selected variants.

“The all-new Isuzu D-Max has made scores of new fans in the markets it has been introduced in and I believe that the same will happen here in Malaysia. This new model evokes a new level of interest in owning and driving a pick-up truck hence we have initiated this pre-launch booking programme to ensure those who have eagerly awaited the arrival of the new model will be among the very first to take delivery once it has been officially launched,” added Mr Suzuki.

Our Opinion on the Fast Track to bring the new D-Max & Other details like estimated Prices

I think the folks at Isuzu Malaysia did a good job in convincing Isuzu Japan into fast-tracking the introduction of this new generation D-Max. It also comes at somewhat of a right timing as Malaysia is finally introducing the use of something close to Euro5 diesel grade and stopping the use of Euro2 diesel. Or whatever more polluting diesel that used to be. This would allow more manufacturers to bring in the latest vehicles as soon as possible.

Secondly, we also think that the recent government move to stimulate SST has resulted in every car manufacturer selling all of their stocks and Isuzu must have been moving theirs too. This has definitely resulted in a push for the latest model too. All in all, we definitely benefit as the new D-Max will be coming here soon. And the D-Max has always been one of the more dependable ones on the market.

The all-new Isuzu D-Max that will make its debut at the end of April 2021 is estimated to be priced between RM89,000 and RM145,000 depending on model subject to government approvals.
