MINI Malaysia has launched the New 2020 MINI Convertible Sidewalk Edition. This is limited to 20 units only for the Malaysian market and takes after the original 2007 first generation MINI Sidewalk Generation. It is priced to go at RM285,899.47 after taking into account the SST Exemption which is in force until 31st December 2020.
The 2020 MINI Convertible Sidewalk Edition is based on the already special open top MINI variant and comes with a unique exterior paintwork, different alloy rim styling and interior fittings developed especially for this special edition. It is offered in the youthful Deep Laguna metallic colour, has that nice no roof feeling of any convertible (when you want), a powerful Cooper S engine with MINI TwinPower Turbo, special trimming inside and out as well as most of the equipment you'd expect from a premium compact car these days.
As with the Cooper S, the 2.0liter turbocharged 4 cylinder engine makes 192hp and 280Nm torque. With a 7 speed dual clutch automatic gearbox, it is as fast as a Cooper S, albeit slightly heavier due to more chassis work to handle that lack of a roof for torsional strength. 0-100kmh is done in 7.1 seconds from 6.8seconds if you want a Cooper S with a roof. It will do 230kmh if it has enough road to do so. Couple that with a MINI chassis, it should be massive fun in terms of driving pleasure.
Of course, you could drive it like a convertible and just soak up the sun and the wind in your hair at decent speeds with the roof down.

Now if you think about it, I don't think there are any direct competitors in terms of open top motoring which you can get under RM300K. This is it actually if you want something totally brand new and not some grey import car. Then you add the fact that this isn't the standard MINI Convertible, it does have some extra cache there.
Open top motoring is actually quite nice in a car. You still get the safety of being encapsulated inside a car unlike a motorcycle (with the exception of a roof), but like a motorcycle, you get a lot of sunshine or even that feeling of having limitless headroom. I quite like that feeling actually.

The New MINI Convertible Sidewalk Edition gets a speical Deep Laguna body colour that accentuates the powerful design language of the variant. The individual side scuttles in the

The MINI Yours Soft-top Sidewalk offers protection against rain and sun, and opens electrically
within 18 seconds even with the car moving at up to 30km/h. The electric-powered, 3-in-1,
black soft-top roof features an interwoven "Sidewalk" pattern in Titanium Grey.
The sporty bonnet stripes, embellished with a geometric pattern, put an individual spin on that
iconic MINI Convertible look. The 17-inch light-alloy Scissor Spoke 2-tone wheels of the New
MINI Convertible Sidewalk Edition are also a model-specific design feature.
Inside, the variant is equipped with the Sidewalk Edition interior that features the exclusive
MINI Yours Leather Lounge Sidewalk seats in anthracite, combined with contrasting seams in
Petrol and Energetic Yellow. The Petrol paint effect also embellish the door trims, with
doormats in matching dark Petrol surrounds and Energetic Yellow seams are also standard to
the variant.
The sports steering wheel bearing the Sidewalk logo and contract seams in Petrol further
accentuate the sportiness of the New MINI Convertible Sidewalk Edition, along with the
stylishly decorative cockpit trim in Petrol finish.
The MINI Convertible Sidewalk Edition also features LED headlamps, LED front and rear fog
lamps, the interior lighting package with 12 colour ambient lights, as well as the MINI Driving
Modes, automatic air conditioning, a height-adjustable front passenger seat and a storage
compartment package.
Performance
This variant gets the MINI TwinPower Turbo engine and is coupled to a seven-speed
Steptronic automatic double clutch transmission .The 2.0liter engine produces maximum
output of 192hp and 280Nm of torque.
0 to 100km/h is dispatched in 7.1 seconds and it has a maximum speed of 230km/h
while having a petrol consumption of only 5.7 litres of fuel per 100km.
Advanced infotainment systems.
The MINI Convertible Sidewalk Edition is equipped with the range topping Wired Package that
consist of the 8.8-inch MINI Visual Boost with Navigation System. This MINI Visual Boost can
be operated via the intuitive touchscreen, via the MINI controller or even via Voice Control.
With Apple CarPlay, owners can connect their iPhone wirelessly to the vehicle and use the
MINI Visual Boost to access numerous features on the iPhone. The new Wireless Charger in
the armrest will ensure mobile phones are always recharged upon arrival.
Music can be enjoyed in the New MINI Convertible Sidewalk Edition via the outstanding
Harman Kardon 12-Speaker Soundsystem. Thanks to the perfectly positioned high-
performance speakers, music of all genres can be enjoyed to the fullest, whether in the front
seat or in the rear. Convenience is offered within the New MINI Convertible Sidewalk Edition
via the Comfort Access system that comes as standard.
With MINI Connected, the New MINI Sidewalk Edition is equipped with built-in 4G SIM
technology, allowing Intelligent Emergency Call with automatic detection of vehicle location
and accident severity is available, as well as MINI Online and MINI TeleServices. The current
update of the MINI Connected App also offers an exceptionally wide range of digital services
such as sending navigation destinations from smartphone to vehicle and receiving information
