Happenings: Mercedes-Benz Malaysia's 'Christmas in a ShoeBox' Brings Some Cheer to Needy Children Again

Ho Ho Ho. Merry Christmas! It was a merrier Christmas than usual for 46 children from three charity homes as Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM) hosted them for a full day of events. This is the ninth year running that MBM has held their annual 'Christmas in a Shoebox' (CIAB) initiative where the Malaysian arm of the premium automaker gives back to the community and more.

This year's CIAB was held at RUANG in SS 18, Subang Jaya. The children from the three homes - Angels Children’s Home, Agathians Shelter and House of Joy, were given the chance to participate in many activities which included a Christmas-themed sand-art session, cupcake decorating with assorted edible toppings for the children to decorate freely, wristband handicraft session as well as play with Lego and jigsaw puzzle sets. The acitivities were specially designed for the children to express themselves and at the end of the day, take home their masterpieces as a treasured memory.

Whilst the activities may seem trivial to most of us and are things that we may actually take for granted, the activities would actually be meaningful to many of the children who were there. These are children who are needy and are living at a foster home who do not have it easy. So it could matter a whole lot to them.

Since it is a season of giving, each child received a special gift. Every gift was personalized to each child as it was based on their respective wish lists. The gifts were personally picked out and packed in Mercedes-Benz backpacks by volunteers from MBM, Mercedes-Benz Services Malaysia and TSS Malaysia.

A special appearance by Santa, Rara and Kiwi the clowns and MBM’s Mobile Kids mascot, MoKi, prompted squeals of excitement from the children who took turns hugging and high-five-ing their favourite characters.

The 2017 ‘Christmas in a Shoebox’ concluded on a high with a special Christmas gift time with Santa, MoKi and Rara. Every gift was personalized to each child as it was based on their respective wish lists.
