Volkswagen Group Malaysia announces more measures to handle warranty issues

This is a short bit overhead directly from what was discussed between Volkswagen Group Malaysia and the group that voiced up grievances  - the Vw Dsg 7 Defects Community on Facebook

Firstly, VW Group Malaysia will now streamline the whole EXTENDED WARRANTY CLAIMS PROCESS. The VW Extended warranty process is/was handled by Allianz Insurance and as stated earlier, it is a long an bearaucratic process in handling and approving a claim. People cannot wait too long as this is their only mode of transport etc. etc. And so, VW Group Malaysia will work hand in hand with the insurance provider and also with the service dealers to ensure quicker claims addressing as well as ensuring better customer service experience. In short, less paperwork, blurcase insurance adjusters and better service by service personnel at the service centers. Crack the whip, VW Malaysia. Things must change.

Secondly, a 1,500km goodwill extension for service intervals. This basically means that if you have a 10,000km service interval, you can send it at the latest at 11,500km and you still get to keep your warranty. Prior to this, the leeway was limited to 500km. You cross that and you have no more warranty. The group wanted 3,000km but VW Group Malaysia must have agreed to 1,500km as a middle ground.

Then do also remember that they have added a hotline for customers to call on weekdays for their warranty issues as well as opening their service centers on Sundays. This is quite a lot that VW Group Malaysia has decided to do in a span of one week folks. Sometimes, with some prodding, large organisations can make changes quickly. IF they want to.

That is all for now folks. On the surface, or on paper the matter would seem to have settled down a little. Of course now it must be seen to be taken into effect at the service centers. These service dealers must play ball to ensure that 'shit does not hit the fan' again.

Of course, I have to warn first time continental car buyers - these cars are NOT CHEAP TO MAINTAIN. This is not Europe where these are entry level bread and butter models. They are Proton over there, and may cost slightly more than a Proton over here but these cars are not Proton in spare part prices over here. If you just started work for a couple of years and are earning less than RM4,000, please do not bother with a VW OR ANY CONTINENTAL CAR FOR THAT MATTER. You can show off when you are a senior executive or something. Don't go buying that Polo 1.2 if you are just starting out in work.

And don't say someone didn't warn you.
