2015 Honda Civic Type-R launched at Geneva - Here are some leaked photos

There will be an all new Honda Civic Type-R for all those Honda tuning fans out there. Photos of the upcoming car has already been leaked prior to its official launch at the Geneva Motor Show tomorrow. The car has been confirmed to have something all Honda fans (read as fanatics) have waited for..an official turbocharged Type-R. It's based on the 2 door Civic hatchback and no sign of a 4 door version by the likes of it.

Of course, some may call it blasphemous as there is now no more purity of a VTEC induced howl unfiltered and damped by a turbocharger's whistle. But there are some out there who are frustrated that Honda has not caught on early enough in this forced induction battle of horsepower and overall efficiency. Yes, revving that 2.0liter normally aspirated VTEC engine to 9,000rpm may be heavenly, but sometimes with torque figures so small and a power band so narrow it does take lots of work chasing after that Golf GTI or that WRX STI which so easily puts down oodles of torque and then disappears down the road.

Trust me, whilst you are stroking through the gears waiting for that 9,000rpm orgasm, the turbocharged rockets have disappeared with their over 300Nm torque figures. It is very personal this VTEC stuff, more of a self indulgence these days. And so Honda has decided to Turbocharge the upcoming Civic Type-R. Which incidently makes about 280bhp and over 300Nm torque from a 2.0liter VTEC Turbo. You still get a VTEC, but with the added flexibility of forced induction. Who cares if you lose a little of throttle adjustability, at least you're able to bring the fight closer when it counts. The Civic Type-R boys in Malaysia would now have the chance to hit times of under 2minutes 33seconds at Sepang (which some WRX STIs are doing) instead of being satisfied with 2.38 or thereabouts (without plonking in a supercharger or a turbocharger that is).

So let's just wait and see and hope Honda Malaysia does the same as the FD2R and bring this baby into our shores officially.
