I have to mentioned this first. 253PS and a WHOPPING 530Nm torque for '"only" RM139K. This is what's interesting in the new GWM Haval H6 HEV, and you can buy it from today onwards. Great Wall Motor (GWM) Malaysia have officially launched the GWM HAVAL H6 HEV in Malaysia. This C-segment SUV combines advanced hybrid technology,modern contemporary styling design and a whole lot of features for just RM139,800 before any insurance.

Quite different in execution from other hybrids we have seen here of late, the H6 offers oodles of power for something that looks like most modern SUVs on the road today (yes, it is a little generic from some angles and you may not really notice it among a sea of SUVs out there). It seems that GWM has kept the really good stuff underneath and for the driver. The 253ps and 530Nm torque is indeed a figure that even most petrolheads would lift an eyebrow.
The 1.5liter 4 cylinder petrol turbo engine and the hybrid motor is also paired to the front wheels via a 2 speed transmission. This differs from most of the hybrids we see here today with the more complicated CVT type tranmissions. Of course, the solution offers simplicity and may keep the maximum speed limited to around 180-190kmh but you still get a good spread and that 7.7seconds 0-100kmh acceleration. I think the tons of torque makes this a good people mover and you could easily cruise with 5 people on board easily. Will be happy to test this hybrid SUV if given the opportunity later.
Anyway, the launch of the H6 adds more fire and fuel to the competitive B and C segment vehicle segment here in Malaysia. I see a competent vehicle in the H6 and seems to be a worthy entrant to the C segment SUV here with its hybrid powertrain, very premium looking interior which features a lot of features and space inside. I think you are essentially getting an over RM160k Japanese SUV for under RM140k. This says a lot.
In terms of how it feels sitting inside the car, I have to say that it looks modern, slightly on the premium side and feels well screwed together. I see it as on par with other offerings at this price range and when you add a whole lot of interior equipment, driver aids and creature comforts, and that performance from the hybrid setup (which isn't an EV, thank God as I still have range anxiety sometimes), I actually kind of like what the H6 is bringing to the table. Expect many traditional brands from Korea and Japan to feel a little bit light headed even more.
