JAC Motors officially made its appearance with Electric and ICE vehicles - i40EV, i75EV, and i90EV trucks, Euro IV-compliant diesel N50 and N80 trucks, Euro V n120 truck & T9 BEV and T9 Diesel 2.0 CTI pickup truck now available

JAC Motors, an established automotive manufacturer in China, are now in Malaysia directly. Prior to this, they had been working with its local partner has decided to come into Malaysia fully. Coming in with a bang, of sorts, JAC Motors Malaysia has launched an quite an impressive lineup of light commercial electric vehicles (EVs), the availability of diesel powered trucks and the upcoming launch of the premium T9 pick-up (in both diesel and BEV variants) in January 2025,

It does look like from the start JAC Motors has decided to offer a comprehensive product lineup across light-duty, medium, and heavy-duty trucks, passenger vehicles, and advanced EVs, positioning itself as a key player in both traditional and new energy markets. I also like the fact that they have decided to concentrate their strengths on the commercial vehicle segment and the pickup truck segment first as the passenger car market is filled to the brim with new brands over the past year or so, especially from Chinese car manufacturers. So shifting focus elsewhere is a good thing in my opinion.

JAC Motors has grown into a globally recognised brand ever since the company started as Hefei Jianghuai Automobile back in 1964. Currently the brand operates in 132 countries with annual sales of approximately 600,000 units. It remains China’s number one light truck exporter for 14 consecutive years and ranks among the top five commercial vehicle brands there.

With 27 production facilities worldwide, including 19 overseas KD factories, JAC employs cutting-edge processes such as digital factories and dark factories. The Hefei High-End Commercial Vehicle Base, for instance, produces 200,000 units annually, underscoring JAC’s manufacturing excellence. Collaborations with vendors like Aisin, Bosch, and Hankook support JAC’s focus on delivering lasting value and performance while adhering to international quality standards, ensuring sustainable growth and long-term success.

The company also stated that they allocate 5-8% of annual revenue to R&D, maintaining several advanced facilities for crash testing, NVH (noise, vibration, and harshness) analysis, and electromagnetic compatibility testing. With nearly 5,000 engineers, JAC remains at the forefront of automotive innovation. Global partnerships with Volkswagen, NIO, CATL, and Cummins drive JAC’s technology edge, enabling progress in battery swapping, hydrogen fuel, electrification, and smart mobility. This collaboration ensures JAC vehicles meet international standards for quality and safety.

I do think this is one of the oldest Chinese manufacturers out there and they have quite a reputation to maintain. From what I have seen at the launch, their trucks and pickup truck have that utilitarian finish to them and are designed to be simple and robust. Even the EV trucks have that simple look to it but seems well put together. It may look basic, but it feels robust and the components are easy to access.

JAC Motors currently offers the widest range of light commercial EVs in Malaysia, including the i40EV, i75EV, and i90EV models. Distributed by JAC Auto Malaysia Sdn Bhd, these vehicles provide Malaysian businesses with reliable, eco-friendly solutions for logistics, delivery, and commercial operations. Additionally, they offer an ideal solution for companies aiming to meet the growing demand for Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) compliance, ensuring sustainable and responsible operations.

In addition to the EV lineup, JAC also offers ,while the N120 model meets Euro V standards. These vehicles are designed to meet regional and international environmental regulations, providing high performance while minimising emissions.

Those that are interested in a pickup truck can have a look at the JAC T9 diesel and more premium specced (and fully imported, and much more pricey) T9 EV. These will be officially launched in January 2025.

The first 300 customers who book the JAC T9 Diesel 2.0 CTI before 31 December, 2024 will be offered the introductory promotion pricing of <RM 120,000 and a 5-year unlimited mileage warranty.

The first 100 customers who book the JAC T9 BEV before 31 December, 2024 will be offered the introductory promotion pricing of <RM 200,000, including a 6-year or 200,000 km warranty. The price is so much higher than the diesel variant because of the specification and the fact that it is fully imported while the diesel will be locally assembled. They look the same on the outside.

As part of its introduction to the Malaysian market, JAC Motors offers an exclusive preview ofthe T9 pick-up series, featuring the T9 Diesel 2.0 CTI 4x4 and the first-in-Malaysia T9 BEV 4x4, both of which will be officially launched in January 2025 by EvolvElectric Motors Sdn Bhd, the sole distributor of JAC pick-ups in Malaysia.
