PROTON has finally launched the S70 sedan earlier this evening. If you've been following the blog you would have known that I have already driven Proton's newest C segment sedan and you can view all four parts of my initial drive over here in the previous article covering that preview drive. Now, Proton has finally revealed the prices for the four variants that will be offered here and I must say that the packages at launch as well as the prices are actually very tempting.
Basically you can never get a brand new C segment sized car at the prices offered by Proton against buying a B segment sedan. Nice isn't it.
The new 2023/2024 Proton S70 1.5T sedan can be had from RM73,800 onwards with a 5 year unlimited mileage warranty package (t&c applies of course), 5 year data package of 1GB/month (T&C applies also), 6 free labour charge when you service your S70 (T&C also applies) and a whole lot of kit for what is offered especially the two flagship variants with its larger infotainment screen and digital instrument cluster.
There will be four variants - the Executive, the Premium, the Flagship and the Flagship X. The base variants - the Executive and the Premium has to make do with 8 inch infotainment screens and an analogue instrument cluster (with a small infomation screen in between two meters - above), the Executive has fabric seats while the Premium gets leather seats (in a simpler pattern than the Flagship).
The Flagship adds a 12.3inch infotainment screen (with the voice command function - above) and a digital instrument cluster as well as leather seats. Equipment also has better active safety systems and the important intelligent cruise control paired with adaptive cruise control (ICC & ACC).
Outside, the Executive and Premium varianst get 205/55 16 sized alloys and tyres while the Flagship gets 205/50 /17 tyres and alloy wheels. Aside from that, all variants are powered by the same 1.5liter 3 cylinder turbocharged engine which makes 15-ps and 226Nm torque making this quite a good sub 10second 0-100kmh car. It is front wheel drive and has a 7 speed dual clutch transmission which is decently smooth and can be sporty enough for most drivers.
The drive at city speeds (up to 80km/h) seems very refined and I have a feeling that if you bought it as a Corolla sized sedan at Vios prices, it would be fantastic (brand and other personal factors aside).

Personally, I think the Flagship (the one with everything offered in terms of equipment with the exception of the sunroof - which is what the Flagship X has but nothing else extra) is the one to get because of the Adaptive and Intelligent Cruise Control option is given as well as the full active safety suit (which has the Blind Spot sensor - which is my favourite active safety function and Autonomous Emergency Braking functions etc. etc.) At RM89,900, this is actually cheaper than a B segment Toyota Vios or a Honda City full spec vatiants that has all of the similar active safey features.
It is also far more comfortable due to its C segment size and better in terms of performance - That 1.5liter turbocharged engine vs 1.5liter normally aspirated engine. Of course, some may say that the badge matters. I would say that sometimes, size, performance also counts. As well as being a good deal cheaper too.

Kuala Lumpur, 28 November 2023 – National car maker PROTON today launched the highly anticipated Proton S70, its new generation stylish and dynamic sedan at the Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil. The event to officially unveil the company’s newest addition to its lineup was officiated by YB Senator Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul Aziz, the Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry. Also present were Tan Sri Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin, Chairman of DRB-HICOM, Tan Sri Syed Faisal Albar, Chairman of PROTON, Dr Li Chunrong, Chief Executive Officer of PROTON and En Roslan Abdullah, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of PROTON.
PROTON returns to the C-segment sedan market
Following the introduction of three all-new SUV models since 2018, the Proton X70, Proton X50 and Proton X90,the Proton S70 signifies the brand’s return to the C-segment sedan market, extending the number of models co- developed with Geely to four.
The development of the Proton S70 was a comprehensive process that underscores PROTON's commitment to innovation and close collaboration with Malaysia’s automotive ecosystem through local sourcing. As a whole,260,000 man-hours were spent by PROTON’s R&D engineers to design and develop the Proton S70.
As with any new model, the Proton S70 underwent rigorous testing by PROTON’s engineers who together with their counterparts from Geely, covered 1.2 million kilometres of road testing. The process reflects the company’s dedication to delivering a precision-crafted sedan for discerning buyers.
Proton S70 – Intelligence That Evolves
The Proton S70 is available in four variants – Executive, Premium, Flagship and Flagship X. The top two variants are equipped with the “Hi PROTON” voice command, providing features such as online navigation, online music streaming and weather forecasts via a 12.3-inch infotainment head unit. Additionally, the PROTON Link app allows for remotely starting the engine to cool down the cabin.
Powering every Proton S70 is a 1.5L turbocharged engine, that delivers 150PS of power and 226Nm of torque. The advanced engine that is also used in the successful Proton X50 is mated to a 7-speed dual clutch transmission for enhanced efficiency, responsiveness and overall driving performance.
The Proton S70 goes beyond its engine prowess, offering a distinctive appearance that includes LED headlamps with daytime running lamps, stylish 17-inch alloy wheels, a sunroof and a rear tail light bar. Prioritising comfort, the Proton S70 is equipped with leatherette seats with driver power seat and rear air vents.
Safety is prioritised in Proton S70, which has been awarded a 5-Star safety rating by ASEAN NCAP. The Proton
S70 boasts a comprehensive list of safety features including 6 SRS airbags, an extensive array of 13 Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) features. These encompassing both active and cognitive safety systems with notable features such as Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC), Traffic Sign Information (TSI) and Lane Change Assist (LCA). The Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) ensures driver peace of mind and 360 Camera with 3D Display for parking convenience.
Prices and Packages
Buyers of the Proton S70 will receive a comprehensive package of benefits for an enhanced ownership experience. The Standard Package is inclusive of 5-year unlimited mileage warranty and six complimentary labour service. Customers opting for the Flagship and Flagship X variants will also receive a 5-year 1GB/month data package.
Additionally, low financing interest rates from 2.34% per annum are also offered via Proton Commerce and customers will receive a range of benefits if their Proton S70 is insured with the PROTON Insurance Program.
These benefits include a waiver of betterment cost for up to 10 years, agreed value coverage extending up to 12years, comprehensive insurance for all authorized drivers, key care cover up to RM1,000, flood relief insurance up to RM1,000, personal accident coverage up to RM15,000, and 24/7 roadside assistance and towing.
