Dunlop is a long time player in the local tyre industry. Tyre series like the SP SPORT moniker has been around for as long as I can remember. I have personally run Dunlop tyres on a few of the cars I owned in recent years, including on the Subaru Impreza 1.6TS (the earlier D 01 on 205/45/17) and the Proton Wira 1.6 (the LM704 on 205/45/16). No complaints for its price and grip. Hopefully these new Dunlops will also represent good value for money.
Dunlop tyres (which are now sold and marketed by Continental Tyre Malaysia) to me represent a nice ratio between price and performance. Of course, I like my tyres to be round (obviously), decently grippy and without too much road noise generated through them. As with most of us, price is important too.

Continental Tyre Malaysia launches two new Dunlop Brand Passenger Car Tyre for the Malaysian Market
Petaling Jaya, 6th March 2015. Continental Tyre PJ Malaysia Sdn Bhd (CTPJ) officially
launched its two latest Alor Setar plant made passenger car tyre - Dunlop Formula D05 and
Dunlop SP Sport J5 at Sunway Lagoon Resort & Spa.
The Dunlop brand in Malaysia has a very long history dated back to 1963 when the PJ plant
was commissioned. The development of Dunlop Formula D05 & SP Sport J5 is the
testament of Continental Tyre Malaysia’s commitment to provide the Malaysian motorist the
state of art technology in line with Dunlop’s tagline of “Passion for Performance”.
Mr.Sim Wee Chung, National Sales Manager of Continental Tyre PJ Malaysia Sdn. Bhd.,
said “Travelling in the rain can be a nerve-wracking experience, a tire with superior wet
weather traction can be a big safety benefit for drivers who need to travel at speed in wet
conditions. Both our Dunlop new lines are 100% engineered with German Technology, and

The wiper blocks designed on Dunlop Formula D05 increases the road contact area. The
Edge-Effect reduces the water-film between tire and road edges which act as a wiper,
ensuring excellent braking performance on wet road. Its advanced Silica Compound
Technology accommodates wider range of operating temperature compared to the
predecessor, Dunlop Formula D01. Enhanced grip tread compound also achieves better
traction on wet condition. The four equally distributed wide longitudinal grooves on the tyre
accelerate water evacuation and equalize water dispersion rate. Leaving no water on the
surface of contact area, delivers the best grip of tires to the road surface.
Over the past few years tyre manufacturers have placed more emphasis on fuel economy
due to consumer demand brought on by high fuel prices. Dunlop SP Sport J5 was developed
with new generation of full silica compound results in very high wet grip and improved rolling
resistance. With this feature, drivers can enjoy maximum driving pleasure and fuel economy,
without compromising safety. The new edge tie-bar designed on Dunlop SP Sport J5
working with water dam mechanism creates high velocity water dispersing, delivers the best
grip to the road surface. On top of that, optimized number of sipes and grooves on the tyre
also enhance water wiping effect while maintaining large contact area, ensuring excellent
braking performance on wet road.
The new and attractive features on both tires are - Dry and wet season indicator, the first to
be available in Malaysia, shows clearly when to change your tires for best optimum wet
performances. It reduces the hassle to check the remaining tread depth of tyres.
The Dunlop Formula D05 line has 28 articles ranging from 15” to 18” is targeted for
performance vehicle, while the SP Sport J5 which has 17 articles ranging from 12” – 15” is
the comfort tyre. These 2 lines cover more than 90% of the total passenger car tyre needs of
the Malaysian market. With the largest network of retailers in Malaysia which covers more
than 839 outlets, these two new lines will be made easily available all over Malaysia in
