KL International Motor Show 2013 - 2014 Hyundai i30 Preview

The Hyundai i30 is a Hyundai Elantra sized hatchback. In fact if you're in America you could buy this as a Hyundai Elantra GT. The car will be sold here in Malaysia in the First Quarter of 2014 and will come with one engine spec, the 1.8liter NU MPI 4 cylinder engine which would make 150PS and178Nm torque. It will also get the 6 speed automatic transmission and will come with lots of kit. No official price has been given as yet but we're predicting it would be sold at RM110,000 to RM115,000 which is slightly higher (due to the specs given) than the previous i30 sold in Malaysia.

Exterior design cues are similar to the Elantra and has all the usual Hyundai 'Fluidic Design' cues. It is a good looking small family hatch outside and inside. Speaking of the inside, the display car at KLIMS13 shows that it has pretty good plastics inside, tactile feeling switchgear and the meter cowl has leatherette wrapping with proper stitching visible, increasing the percieved quality of the car. Unlike some Japanese sedan launched recently, which actually has plastic moulded pseudo-stitching instead of the real thing (it may not necessarily be real leather but you get what I mean). However, a test drive would actually be useful to gauge the real feel of the contact points in this car.

We also believe that this hatchback would offer slightly spirited performance from the 1.8liter NU engine. The 150PS engine should give driving enthusiasts some thrills but it isn't going that fast as the car in global spec form would weigh at least 1,320kg with the specs given. Expect 0-100km/h in about 10seconds and a 195km/h top speed at the very least.

The new i30 is another exciting showcase that visitors can look forward to at KLIMS 13. The i30 has an Aero Active design concept that captures the sleek movement of surging air and unstoppable energy of the wind. It comes with a 1.8 NU MPI engine and is mated with a 6-speed automatic transmission. This vehicle is equipped with state-of-the-art convenience such as a wide panoramic sunroof, a smart welcome system, flexible steering, a hidden rear camera and electric parking brakes. The i30 will be launched in the first quarter of 2014. To drum up the excitement for the i30, HSDM will be accepting bookings for this new model at KLIMS 13.
