Perodua Sells A Lot of Cars in 2019 - Over 240,000 Units and This in Turn Meant Over RM5.4 Billion in Local Parts Supplied. - ALSO, Perodua Bezza Sales Figues Update

Perodua managed to sell 240,341 units of vehicles in 2019 and this basically gave the Malaysian automaker of nearly 40% of the Total Industry Volume of new cars sold in Malaysia. What this means is that out of every 5 cars sold, 2 are Perodua. Amazing isn't it? The record sales figure constitutes a year-on-year jump of 13,098 units, or 5.8%. The Malaysian total industry volume (TIV) was estimated at 604,775 units last year.

This is super massive in terms of one company gobbling up a whole lot of automotive cake. It also shows that Malaysia may be facing a change of sorts in terms of the passenger car industry. Add the fact that the other Malaysian based manufacturer PROTON whacking slightly over 100,000 units of passenger vehicles sold, the cake remaining for the rest seems smaller.

It could be due to the fact that the localised products have hit a spot with the car buying public or the fact that the Malaysian car buying public is worried about the state of the Malaysian economy and are buying down, aiming for local models over the pricier imported ones. Whaever way, the chaps at the Perodua Suppliers Association (P2SA) and the Perodua Dealers Association (PDA) jointly congratulate Perodua on its record 2019 and reaffirm their commitment to the carmaker. Of course, they are truly happy being part of this big share of the cake.

The parts suppliers are part of a strong local economy where these locally produced parts add about over RM6 Billion this year. Last year, Perodua had purchased RM5.4 billion worth of components from Malaysian suppliers. Due to a projected production increase, this year it expects to spend RM6 billion. This is a sizeable 11% jump.

“P2SA heartily congratulates Perodua on its record 2019. The huge sales contributes significantly to the Malaysian automotive eco-system, as all Perodua models have over 90% local content,” said P2SA President En Musa Zahidin Tan Sri Ahmad Zaidee (above).

“We thank Perodua very much for their support and commitment, and would like to say we are also highly committed to Perodua. We will continue to improve our members’ quality, cost and delivery for Perodua’s valued customers, Perodua as an organisation and Malaysia as a progressive nation,” he added.

“Perodua’s record 2019 sales is spectacular given the market uncertainties and rising competition, and its 2020 sales target of 240,000 units remains impressive,” said PDA President En Khairul Nizam Ayob (above).

“PDA will strive to exceed that target and remains wholly committed to Customer Satisfaction in all areas. A commitment of this volume encourages and inspires confidence in dealers to work harder and continue to invest for the benefit of Perodua’s valued customers,” he added.

To date, over 2,000 units of the 2020 Perodua Bezza, which launched only two weeks ago, have found homes out of an order tally of 15,000, which includes 8,000 converted orders for the previous model.

“As the Bezza’s unique upper-body is entirely the work of Perodua’s engineers and designers in Malaysia, the healthy demand for the 2020 Perodua Bezza is great news for us domestic automotive suppliers. We are committed to giving our best to this model to ensure its continued success,” said En Musa.

“The 2020 Perodua Bezza has generated an immense amount of interest since its launch, with footfall considerably increasing at our showrooms. With smart design, smart safety and a smart drive, we look forward to introducing this winning combination to Malaysians from all walks of life!” added En Khairul Nizam.

So the gist of this story is the fact that Perodua has sold more than everyone. But take into account of PROTON's climb up from the bottom rungs to number two on the sales charts, it has also meant that the localised parts industry is benefiting from a rise in the sales of both companies. Of course, there are losers and this could include a number of other local assemblers.

But right now, Perodua is flying high.
