Great Wall Malaysia is now HAVAL Malaysia and HAVAL launches the full spec M4 ELITE AMT too!

Some quick bits. Great Wall Motors (GWM) Malaysia is now called HAVAL Malaysia. HAVAL is the name which the Great Wall Motors company wishes to market all of its products globally. HAVAL is short for 'Have All'. Makes sense doesn't it?

Anyway, the top selling SUV brand in China have been around Malaysia for quite a while and is now pushing their compact SUV pretty hard right now. The Great Wall M4, now known as the HAVAL M4 has sold over 1,500 units since it was first launched at the end of 2014. This is a pretty good start for a relatively unknown brand.

Today, GO Auto, the Malaysian distributors of HAVAL launched the full decked out version of the M4 called the HAVAL M4 ELITE AMT. This is a M4 that has been given a make-over exercise. The exterior getsnew styled projector headlights and a new front grille that features a hexagonal mesh. The interior gets all the goodies including surround camera and the optional armrest that makes things a little better inside. Now the price of the M4 ELITE is RM74,950.00 for individual registration complete with insurance and road tax. Seems a little pricey, but you do get everything with this compared to the entry level M4 Comfort AMT which comes in at RM61,950.00. But no leather seats, no rear view mirror with SmartTag holder, the older grille, no surround camera, no arm rest, the normal headlights and no DRL to name a few. Equipment usually has a price. One cannot run away from that fact.

Aside from that, from February 2016, all new HAVAL M4 ELITE models sold through official authorised channels in the country will get to enjoy a seven-year unlimited mileage manufacturer warranty.

Go Auto targets to sell 1,500 units of HAVAL M4 ELITE version this year in Malaysia (out of a projected total of 5,000 M4 units and another 3,600 units of the M4 for export around the ASEAN region). Overall, they are of the opinion that the HAVAL brand has an optimistic outlook for the year ahead, with a string of new models coming soon. One of them will be HAVAL H2, a C-segment SUV that will be launched in the second quarter of 2016.

During the three-day launch promotion, staring today till this Sunday - 28th February 2016, buyers will also enjoy insurance rebate or service voucher up to 25,000 km.

GO Auto have also taken the opportunity to announce that HAVAL is the official car for the Kindness Futsal Cup 2016 which involves children from orphanages across Malaysia competing in a futsal tournament. The mock-up key was presented to Noriduan Abd Rahman, the President of Kindness Malaysia by Mr. Ahmad ‘Azam bin Dato’ Sulaiman, Director of GO Auto Sales Sdn Bhd.

We have driven the HAVAL M4 AMT awhile ago and found it satisfactory for how much HAVAL Malaysia wants for it. In fact for the price offered, it is pretty good. I had the opportunity to drive up and down Gunung Jerai in Kedah in one and another one up and down Genting Highlands (for a total of about four or five round trips from Awana resort up to the top). No issues at all and even though I was carrying a camera crew with me whilst driving up and down Genting. Would love for the little 1.5liter SUV to have more power as it did struggle a little up the tightest switchback up Genting..... but if it could do the climb up Genting with four grown men (and filming equipment), I suppose one could live with it without any issues whatsoever 99% of the time.
