GWM TANK 300 - A proper off-road SUV, and the GWM Haval H6 Premium SUV are now available for booking in Malaysia -

Great Wall Motor (GWM) have announced that the GWM TANK 300 and the GWM Haval H6 HEV is open for booking in Malaysia. While the H6 is slated for launch in the third quarter of 2024, the TANK300  is expected to be delivered in July 2024 with an estimated price is RM 250,000. The TANK is a proper, chunky looking SUV with off-road capabilities, so it isn't some urban runabout. Something different in today's urban SUV market and you can see it at the ongoing Malaysia Autoshow 2024 (till 26th May 2024 at MAEPS, Serdang).

The GWM TANK 300’s muscular and powerful appearance as well as its purported off-roading specifications will attract off-road enthusiasts. However, inside the SUV is a cozy and soft cabin, with seats covered in NAPPA leather. Drivers can enliven their venturous spirit by settling into the 8-way adjustable driver seat and immersing themselves in the 9 INFINITY loudspeakers’ dynamic acoustics.

The GWM TANK 300 has been fitted with Double-Layer Soundproof Acoustic Glass so while it may have off-roading capabilities, it is also refined to an extent. Comfort is a luxury for many off-road vehicles that highly focused on vehicle performance.

GWM has been establishing its identity as an innovative car manufacturer by developing better intelligent systems in vehicles as well as focusing on SUVs actually capable on all sorts of terrain. The GWM TANK 300 equips Level 2 (L2) Driving Assistance with smart driving assistants including Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), and Highway Assist (HWA). Adding to the bargain is the 12.3-inch Full Colour Infotainment Screen, which has anti-dazzle and anti-reflection features and supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, allowing drivers to experience amusement on demand.

The GWM TANK 300 is powered by 2.0L Turbo 4-cylinder petrol engine and a ZF 8-Speed Automatic Transmission (8AT), that delivers 220 PS and 380 Nm of torque. Aside from its smooth operation in urban settings, the GWM TANK 300 is also adept at tackling off-road conditions like hilly terrain or unpaved tracks. Features such as the all-terrain control system with 9 driving modes, the crawl control mode, and tank turn allow drivers to maneuver across difficult terrain. It has a dual-speed electronically- controlled part-time four- wheel drive (4WD), which can alternate between two-wheel drive (2WD) and four-wheel drive (4WD) mode.

Other notable chassis features and terrain capabalities is that it has an ultra-high-strength vehicle body that weighs at 1500 MPa. It can drive on a ramp angle of 23.1° and a maximum angle grade ability of 70%. This SUV has a maximum wading depth of 700 mm, and basically has enabled the GWM TANK 300’s to keep its position as the No. 1 SUV brand in China for 39 consecutive months.

Other safety features include Type Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) and the 360 degree all-around view monitor with Transparent Chassis Function, drivers can pay attention to their vehicle conditions and its surrounding circumstances. In an accident, the vehicle will activate its Automatic Collision Unlocking and Automatic Collision Fuel Cutoff functions, increasing the chances of the driver and passengers’ survivability. These safety features have earned GWM TANK 300 a 5-star ANCAP safety rating.

“Safety has been a vital element in GWM’s design language,” stated Mike Cui Anqi, Managing Director of GWM Malaysia. “Even for off-road SUVs that cater to a group of thrill-seeking adventurers, we still ensure they can smoothly operate their vehicles in a leisurely manner.”

But the first thing that should attract potential owners is how it looks. As stated, this is a proper off-roader rather than an urban runabout. It is also styling to look as such with its squarish chunky looks that makes it look strong and capable. I still feel that SUVs should be chunky bois, and they must have some real off-roading capabilities. So, amidst the numerous newly launched SUVs that have been coming out from China, this is quite unique.

The first 300 GWM TANK 300 bookings will receive a special package from GWM, including a 5Year/ 100,000 km free service package inclusive of part and labour, whichever comes first, a lifetime powertrain warranty with unlimited mileage, solely for the first owner, and a mystery gift that will be revealed at the official launch.

The GWM TANK 300 is a Completely Built Up (CBU) unit, and it will arrive in Malaysia in complete  condition. This is to maintain its reputation as a champion SUV that has captured the hearts of China’s off-road enthusiasts.

Aside from that, the long-awaited GWM HAVAL H6 HEV (Hybrid ev) is open for booking, and is expected to be launched in Q3, 2024. This intelligent mid-size SUV is engineered with economy and safety in mind. It also contributes to a greener environment with its state-of-the-art hybrid technology.
