Perodua sends aid to their distributor partner ,Unimo, in Sri Lanka

Malaysian car manufacturer Perodua had stated earlier today that they have sent some assistance to the staff of its authorised distributor over in Sri Lanka, Unimo Enterprises Limited. This comes as a welcome surprise as the island nation is struggling to recover from an ongoing financial crisis which has seen a freeze on most imports since 2020.
As a result of this import ban, the sale of Perodua vehicles in Sri Lanka has had to cease for the moment and if you are working for a company selling imported cars, things will suffer without a product to sell leaving staff and also the distributor in a lurch financially.

As a form of extremely goodwill, Perodua had gifted vouchers to 171 Unimo employees as a gesture of assistance during this difficult period

“The financial crisis in Sri Lanka has also led to livelihood difficulties and we are thankful that we are now able to extend a helping hand to our partners there,” Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad said.

.

“We choose shopping vouchers as this is the most effective way to assist Unimo staff to get daily essentials and hope that the situation there improves,” Dato’ Sri Zainal said.

Unimo Enterprises Limited is Perodua’s distributor in Sri Lanka since the year 1995 and Sri Lanka was also the previous largest CBU export market for Perodua. Prior to the downturn caused by the Covid 19 pandemic as well as the reported bad decisions by the Sri Lankan government, the Bezza 1.0L was Perodua's best selling model there.

I find it extremely thoughtful that Perodua has extended aid to one of their oldest dealers and their staff that are definitely in need at this point of time. It also tells me that the folks managing Perodua have a heart. A big one at that.

Our thoughts go out to the people of Sri Lanka and hope that things will get better soon.
