Perodua is officially taking orders for the All-New Perodua Alza compact MPV. According to them, the all-new Alza will come with" significant improvements in terms of driving comfort and versatility.: It will be based on the current Daihatsu Xenia/Toyota Veloz, which is already on sale over in Indonesia, rather than based on the Daihatsu Boon Luminas. Tentative pricing for the all-new Alza is between RM62,000 and RM75,000 (in West Malaysia, without insurance and pre-sales tax),
The All-New Perodua Alza, while no longer based on the Boon Luminas, which model series has been discontinued in Japan in 2012, this new one is basically the Daihatsu Xenia, which is a Toyota Veloz or a MPV based on third generation Toyota Avanza platform instead. Thankfully, the Avanza has been improved both in terms of refinement and its looks compared to what it was previously (seriously third world/developing country type of car which is quite sad to look at and drive). In Toyota Avanza top spec form, it does look like it was born from the womb of a Toyota Alphard. Call it Miniphard. So, in the end, the Avanza isn't a horribly looking vehicle anymore. This makes the all-new Alza a very decent proposition actually.
But we are getting the Daihatsu Xenia based variant folks. This isn't a bad thing as Perodua in recent years seems to be on a roll and they do know what the Malaysian car buying public wants. We should be getting the Daihatsu Xenia with a different front and rear number, some additional interior refinements. But essentially, it should look like the Xenia interior below with that nice floating infotainment screen in the middle.
One of the improvements that this new chassis should bring is the which the greater interior space for its occupants. Being based on a platform that was designed from the start as a MPV, rather than a stretched Daihatsu Boon could be the reason. Since it is a 2021 launch design, it would also feature better driving stability. Perodua also states that the multi- purpose vehicle (MPV) was designed specifically for both Malaysian drivers and roads. This is much like how they ensured enough road testing to be done on the Daihatsu Terios rebadge, the Perodua Rush. They actually spent time honing the Rush to be able to handle the different, and actually faster driving style of Malaysian road users.
The All-New Alza will be available in three variants, the X, H and AV; the All-New Perodua Alza comes in 5 colours: Ivory White, Glittering Silver, Garnet Red, Elegant Black (NEW) and Vintage Brown (NEW).
“We took our time in designing this full model change as we truly wanted to understand what improvements our customers wanted, and the All-New Perodua Alza aims to fulfil these requests,” said Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer Dato’ Zainal Abidin Ahmad.
“One of the many requests was a better driving experience, and to this we have engineered the All-New Perodua Alza’s ground clearance to be at 160mm which, in our assessment, is the best height for a pleasant Malaysian drive, for an MPV,” he added.
Dato’ Zainal said that the All-New Perodua Alza has bigger space compared with its predecessor, especially in the third row as well as a rear air-conditioning unit.
“Above and beyond that, the All-New Perodua Alza’s fuel efficiency has also been improved with up to potentially 22KM per litre, which is among the best in its class (MPV),” he said.
As regards storage space, the All-New Perodua Alza has a luggage capacity of 137 litres but a 498-litre capacity if the third row seats are folded.
The All-New Perodua Alza will with the Perodua Smart Drive Assist (PSDA) suite, which can be divided into four categories; the Advance Safety Assist (ASA), Driver Assist, Parking Assist and Headlamp Assist.
The latest features for a Perodua model include a 360⁰ Panoramic View, Electronic Parking Brake with Auto Brake Hold, Rear Disc Brake and a new Drive Mode: Normal, Eco and Power.
Among the standard safety features of this new model include 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, vehicle stability control (VSC) with brake assist and rear sensors to assist with parking.
Above and beyond that, the All-New Perodua Alza standardised the “Advanced Safety Assist” or ASA features in all variants. These include; Pre-collision Warning, Pre-Collision Assist Brake (for vehicles and pedestrian), Mis-pedal Operational
Control and Front Departure Alert. All variants will also include “Lane Departure Warning” and “Lane Departure Prevention” systems. As extra bonuses, all variants will be equipped with “Leaving Home” Headlamp Assist and Hill-start Assist functions.
