All New 2022 Perodua Alza MPV Launched - Already 30,000 Bookings Received For It

As usual, a new Perodua gets a ton of bookings prior to the official launch. So we now see the all-new Alza MPV having 30,000 and by now, more than that bookings by Malaysians. It does look like Malaysians love their Perodua and the new Alza, totally all-new is being welcomed extremely well. Now, it is based on the latest generation of Toyota/Daihatsu compact MPV chassis which is will know as the Avanza (in its most basic form).

The new Alza takes after this new 3rd generation Toyota Avanza or Daihatsu Xenia. It features a slight redesign by Perodua in terms of its front and rear end and should also feature some suspension tuning to suit Malaysian road conditions and most importantly, Malaysian drivers, who actually drive at higher than usual speeds compared to other markets where the Xenia/Avanza is marketed. So, it should be able to cruise at certain speeds that you see some Perodua drivers do on our highways.

It seems we get three variants - the X (at RM62,500), the H (at RM68,000) and the top specced AV (at RM75,500 - all prices Peninsular Malaysia). I think that is good enough as the compact MPV is price reasonably even for the top specced one. You get the typically well appointed interior equipment for a Perodua, a very current specced infotainment system, 6 airbags and you also get all the latest Perodua active safety features in the top variants.

The engine here is the venerable 1.5liter 4 cylinder engie you see in the Perodua Myvi as well as those fitted to 1.5liter Toyotas here too. It is coupled to a CVT gearbox which should be tuned for load carrying as well as fuel efficiency. It needs torque to carry 7 people and their luggage if you know what I mean. Essentially the same engine fitted to the previous Alza but with a CVT gearbox. Expect the same amounts of performance give or take a little here and there.

But for me, the most important is the styling of the MPV. While based on the lowly Avanza platform, this is now in its 3rd generation form so it is light years better than the Toyota Avanza that I dearly hate. This one looks like it sits lower to the ground and does not look like some 7 seater van body was placed on a truck chassis. The original sat too high and looked odd and off. It was meant as basic rugged transport that actually looked so out of place. This new one does not. It sits lower and looks low slung. It also has an aggressive sporty looking front end that is younger in its outlook. The overall stance of the new Alza (or new Xenia or Avanza) is so much better.

I basically wouldn't mind sitting in one for a long journey. Press release below folks, and more photos.

OFFCIAL PRESS RELEASE

Kuala Lumpur, 20 July: The All-New Perodua Alza received over 30,000 bookings since

the compact carmaker took orders on 23 June 2022, the highest ever in the brand’s

history.

“This achievement was due to several factors, chief among them was that customers

wanted to take full advantage of sales tax exemption initiative which expired on 30 June

2022 and of the over 200,000 bookings we currently hold, nearly 15% was for this full

model change,” Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Zainal Abidin

Ahmad said.

Dato’ Zainal said this at the official launch of the All-New Perodua Alza, which was

attended by the Right Honourable Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, Perodua

Chairman Tan Sri Asmat Kamaludin and Daihatsu Motor Co. President, Mr Soichiro

Okudaira.

He said the other factors include the attractiveness of the All-New Perodua Alza’s overall

value package. This include enhanced safety features such as 6 airbags, Advanced

Safety Assist features, enhanced digital offerings, ample space and improved driving

comfort.

(The All-New Perodua Alza’s full features are listed in the model specification sheet

attached with the media kit/ email attachment).

Dato’ Zainal said that nearly 4,000 customers converted their Perodua Alza orders to the

latest version even before its open for booking was officially announced.

“Beginning today, some of our customers will be receiving their All-New Perodua Alza

from 195 authorised sales showrooms across the country. Also, we assure our customers

who booked their All-New Perodua Alza on or before 30 June will receive their vehicle

before the 31 March 2023 deadline,” Dato’ Zainal said.

The All-New Perodua Alza is officially priced at RM62,500 for the X variant, RM68,000 for

the H variant and RM75,500 for the AV variant (prices in West Malaysia, with Sales Tax

and without insurance).

For those who booked their All-New Perodua Alza on or before 30 June 2022 and receive

their unit on or before 31 March 2023 will enjoy lower prices as they qualify for the sales

exemption initiative.

The Malaysian government recently announced that all vehicles booked on or before 30

June may still enjoy the sales tax exemption initiative as long as their vehicles are

registered on or before 31 March 2023.

On development of the All-New Perodua Alza, Dato’ Zainal said that the company

invested RM770 million to develop the model since April 2018.

The All-New Perodua Alza was jointly developed under the Daihatsu New Global

Architecture (DNGA) where Malaysian designers and engineers worked with their

counterparts within Daihatsu Motor Co. of Japan.

“This partnership has allowed Perodua and its suppliers to work together with Daihatsu to

achieve economies of scale and improve development cost of new models, and in this

case, the All-New Perodua Alza,” Dato’ Zainal said.

He said that the All-New Perodua Alza is the second model developed under DNGA after

the Perodua Ativa, which was introduced in March 2021.
