The official distributor of Kia vehicles in Malaysia, Naza Kia Malaysia, will be launching the All-New 2020 Kia Seltos compact SUV. The new compact SUV is now open for bookings at all Kia showrooms throughout Malaysia if you are interested and it will soon be one of the new compact SUVs that will compete in this hotly contested segment which comprises of both Malaysian, Japanese and Korean made vehicles. This segment is indeed heating up to be the fight to see.
Anyway, according to other publications well versed in this model, there are three versions of Seltos designed and built by Kia. There is one larger version built in South Korea which is designed for developed markets like in Europe and over in the United States.There is then the Indian-made Seltos and also the Chinese version called the Kia KX3. These later two models are the lower cost versions of Seltos designed to penetrate most emerging markets like Malaysia. It is built on a more simplified platform and is related to the second-generation Hyundai ix25/Creta. Not too shabby since it is essentially a Hyundai platform underneath (Hyundai and Kia are part of the same group FYI).
Now the Kia Seltos should in some ways sit below the Kia Sportage in terms of the model hierarchy here in Malaysia. With the 2.0liter Sportage coming in at around RM124K, it could be priced slightly lower at around RM120K for the top specced 2.0liter variant if it is brought in with that engine. There is also a 1.6liter variant which could be much more affordable and could be better value for your money.
Of course, it could totally replace the Sportage here in Malaysia. We never know as it may have more competitive pricing compared to the Sportage.
Let's just wait and see how much it will cost when it is officially launched. It could be soon as Naza Kia is fully aware of the other new compact SUVs from Proton and Hyundai which will be launched within the next few months too.
