Now this is a unique car that has been Spotted for Sale over at mudah.my. It is an Alfa Romeo Alfetta GTV 2.0 from 1980 that has been rebuilt from the ground up by the looks of it. It has a baremetal respray of the body, an overhauled engine, new alloy wheels and tyres and a proper suspension upgrade.
It may lack the original steel bumpers on the car (but I would suggest calling the owner and asking about it if you intend to return it to originality) but this look apes the original GTV racecars from way back then. In fact, most racing cars derived from cars in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s which had steel bumpers usually ended up with this sort of look. It looks pure, without any sort of overriders or bumpers.
Anyway, this is an Alfa Romeo. A GTV at that! This is a unique car because of many things. The body is an ItalDesign by Giugiaro (a famed Italian design house). The engine is the famed Alfa Romeo twin camshaft four - an engine which was produced for about forty years from the 1950s to the 1990s and one that actually sounded fabulous and also looked great once you popped the bonnet and actually looked at it. It usually made between 122ps to 130ps and 173Nm to 178Nm. Healthy figures considering this was in the 1970s.
It also had a fantastic suspension setup - the front had double wishbones and the rear had something called a transaxle setup incorporating a De Dion axle. The transaxle actually means a transmission axle, in that the gearbox was located at the rear of the car which also drove the rear wheels. The Alfetta series of cars was a pioneer in this setup. The Alfetta's transaxle design, was designed in combination with a Watt's linkage, inboard rear brakes (something damn unique as you'd notice that the rear wheels had no discs or drum brakes at all until you bend down, look inside and find the disc brakes deep inside where the driveshafts emerge from the transaxle).
Then you add a well-located de Dion rear suspension (which is a solution to making a non-independent rear suspension work perfectly). This resulted in excellent traction and handling for the Alfetta as it had the engine up front and the transmission or gearbox at the rear. The front double wishbone suspension design was also unique in that it incorporated torsion bar springs acting directly onto the lower wishbones with separate dampers. The transaxle setup meant that the Alfetta actually had what today's Nissan GT-R is using today in terms of optimising the handling of a car. All this in the 1970s. Bloody marvellous engineering!
If I had extra cash as well as the time required to run and maintain a beauty like this I would. But right now I am just showcasing this for you guys out there. This is a beauty that deserves to be driven. The owner wants RM35,000 for it. If all that was written is true. Then it is truly worth every Ringgit.
The original advert is here (while it lasts) and also down below:
Long arm short leg driving position...or the Italian orangutan driving position should be included in this package ....
