Carama Launches Malaysia’s First Car Service Price Calculator

I happened to attend the launch of 'Malaysia's First Car Service Price Calculator' which is located at www.carama.com. There you can reportedly get the estimates for your basic car servicing costs and repairs. Quite easy to use once you have registered and it will give you a rough (I do mean rough) estimate on the cost of repairs and/or servicing.

There is also an interesting infographic which I have placed below detailing what we Malaysian car owners actually worry or think about when it comes to servicing one's vehicle. It does make some sense and Carama (by Castrol) intends to assist us owners in making finding a proper workshop or mechanic a hassle free experience (or hassle free after you register at the website, that is). Aside fromt he price calculator, Carama ensures its users the chance to tell-all. If one has good experiences at the service center, he or she can actually write a short review so that it can help others. This makes the servicing experience accessible to all.

Mr Sumeet Wadhwa, General Manager of Carama
Oh yes, some may be wondering why Castrol, a brand known for lubricants are tying up with workshops and service centers. Well brand awareness is high on the list and it is a way to help its customers as well as a way to assist workshops and service centers for a small fee (nothing is free one must remember). As everything is transparent, customers should not worry about overcharging and whatnots. It's a noble cause I say.

On the same note, Carama is new and is basically working to expand its network to outside the Klang Valley as well as adding more vehicle brands. Currently its car database consists of the common brands and in the near future, it would include specialist workshops as well to cater a broader range of customers. Also note that the targer market is for the younger, more internet savvy consumer. Obvious since the system sits on the internet. There are some promotions on-going (till  April 15th 2014) and if you're interested more do scroll down to the press release after the infographic below.
Press Release:
Carama Launches Malaysia’s First Car Service Price Calculator
Empowering you with the knowledge of how much to pay for your car maintenance

Kuala Lumpur, 28 February 2014 – Carama by Castrol, Malaysia’s first online service for trusted car care today launched the Service Price Calculator, an innovative online tool giving car owners peace of mind by providing estimates for their car maintenance. The tool is the first-of-its-kind in Malaysia.

A recent survey by Carama.com and Paul Tan, Malaysia’s automotive blogger, showed the people surveyed feel a need for assurance over the quality of workmanship and transparency in pricing. By helping to address these concerns, Carama can play a key role in the relationship between car owners and workshops, and at the same time, hopefully encourage higher standards in car workshops across the country.

Sumeet Wadhwa, General Manager of Carama said “The survey results collected from over 1600 car owners in Malaysia indicates concern and uncertainty around quality of repair and maintenance costs for their vehicles. Carama streamlines the workshop selection process and all Carama workshops provide car owners peace-of-mind through a three-month warranty on all services and repairs. By introducing our Service Price Calculators to consumers, they can now calculate estimates of their repair and not feel overcharged.”

Roy Williamson, Director, Castrol InnoVentures said: “This is a great step for consumers in Malaysia. The quality assurance offered through Carama and pricing transparency has the potential to lift the standards of independent workshops in Malaysia and consumer perceptions. We are excited to bring this opportunity to both Malaysian workshops and car owners.”

At this stage the service price calculator covers a selection of car makes and models including, Proton, Perodua, Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Suzuki, Isuzu, Mitsubishi, Ford, and Naza.

Launched in August, Carama, has a network of more than 130 workshops in Klang Valley. Carama features a workshop locator, service price calculatormy car logbook and Carama Rewards (four percent cashback on all services and repairs) to help car owners simplify their car care experience and find the best workshop for their car.
