Hyundai Motor Malaysia (HMY) had earlier today previewed the upcoming new Hyundai Stargazer B segment MPV at the Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show (KLIMS) 2026. This was an exclusive mid-event teaser preview of its highly anticipated new Hyundai STARGAZER. The compact SUV will come in three variants, two 7 seater and a top of the range 6 seater with individual 'captain' style seats for the middle row. The estimated prices are extremely competitive even though it is being fully imported from Indonesia with the entry level 7 seat Stargazer Style at an estimated RM99,xxx, the mid spec 7 seat Prime at RM109K onwards and the fully specced 6 seater at RM121,000 onwards. Prices have yet to be confirmed at this preview.
As part of HMY’s broader growth narrative following its establishment as a direct subsidiary, the introduction of the new Hyundai STARGAZER reinforces the brand's push to becoming relevant with Malaysian tastes and consumers. The pricing is spot on in terms of bringing the contest to the other non-Malaysian makes like the Mitsubishi Xpander and the Toyota Velos. It brings ADAS 2 equipment which makes it a good option to those that want safety as the first choice and it is fresh to the Malaysian market bringing something new to the segment.
Of course, the Stargazer was first launched in 2022 over in Indonesia. The model we are getting is the recently facelifted model with Hyundai's current styling as well as more features. One of the reasons why Hyundai was slow to introduce the model here is that Malaysia has adopted the UN ECE regulations for vehicle equipment and safety, so ours is an even more equipped variant with additional requirements that adhere to the stricter standards. Better late than never, but we do get better equipment and Malaysians seem to like having better specified cars too.
"The new Hyundai STARGAZER is what we call a ‘Wehicle’,” said Ms. Jahabarnisa Haja Mohideen,
Managing Director of Hyundai Motor Malaysia. “It’s not just about the car but the people inside and
around it. We believe that the WE in ‘WEhicle'; is the most important part and because the ‘WE’ matters, Hyundai designed this car to be a smart and protective road companion for modern families in Malaysia. The new Hyundai STARGAZER delivers superiority across safety, technology, and convenience for every single member of the family.”
The new Hyundai STARGAZER breaks away from conventional styling with its sleek, aerodynamic silhouette and Hyundai's signature full-width H; LED light bar at the rear. Catering to younger families who want a bolder edge, HMY is also using the KLIMS platform to introduce its new STARGAZER X variant – a distinct, SUV-inspired variant equipped with sporty bumpers, a rear sporty spoiler, overfenders and blacked-out branding.
Inside, the three-row cabin is designed to be spacious for modern family life rather than a basic people mover even though it is a B Segment MPV. It feels more than adequate for most families and the third row can easily seat adults, but they must bear in mind that this is a B segment vehicle. So it is good for what it is.
The interior delivers premium convenience through accessible, lifestyle-oriented tech, highlighted by an immersive digital display up to 10.25 inches, wireless device charging pad, and practical additions like integrated seat-back tables for passenger comfort. The interior materials seem good to the touch and there are some smart touches throughout the cabin. There are even trays on the rear of the front seat backs for the middle row passengers to utilise. The air vents at the roof for the rear passengers is a nice design touch.
The Stargazer is powered by a Hyundai1.5-litre Smartstream engine - 115ps and 144Nm torque, and a smooth Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT). The MPV prioritizes family safety with the Hyundai SmartSense ADAS suite, offering high-value assistance features like Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go.
The new Hyundai STARGAZER will also arrive backed by a segment-shaking 8-Year/160,000km warranty.
