Good day peeps. We have a new video out on our driving experience testing out the new 2025/26 Chery Tiggo 7 PHEV and Chery Tiggo 8 PHEV. These hybrid SUV models were launched in October of this year and are the latest variants of the popular Tiggo mid sized SUVs here. These are plug in hybrids so you can drive it for about 80km or so on full electric mode and it also has an estimated combined range of around 1,200km. So if you don't like refueling, this is the cars for you.
So if you want to know basic details of the two SUVs, you can read about it at the previous launch article HERE. If you want a short version, the 7 seats five people and the 8 seats seven. Well, the Tiggo 7 does not seat seven and the 8 does not seat eight. It has nothing to do with the seats in the car, and I just had to make that corny joke up. Aside from that, the interiors have some differences as the 7 features a single piece look infotainment / instrument cluster screen whereas the 8 has the usual generic looking large infotainment screen and small instrument cluster found in most Chinese designed cars these days.
There are also notable differences in specs as the 7 is more feature oriented while the 8 is a family oriented one. Some of these are mentioned in the video embedded above (or you could watch over on our YouTube channel) as well as the article above.
Anyway, we liked driving both variants. If you like a sportier feel, the shorter length Tiggo 7 is the car for you. The longer Tiggo 8 feels more safe and secure, even on the skid pan test we did in both cars.
Tiggo 7 PHEV on the skid test areaWhy is the Tiggo 8 more stable? It is most likely due to the extra length making it feel a little more stable at the limit. You do feel the extra weight though but the drivetrain, with its combined 275 PS and 365 Nm of torque (front wheel drive, via a specially designed hybrid transmission) make easy work out of the corners and uphill gradients on the handling track. Both Tiggos feel torquey and that near 400Nm shows as it is easy to power through a corner in one of these.
Which would I choose? Which would You choose? Watch the video and find out what I would choose , folks.
