The newly upgraded Proton X50 has been launched but if you look at the photos here, you'd not notice it. This isn't a facelift folks, but more of a real upgrade underneath. It has more sound proofing, so better NVH (less noise, vibration and harshness), the larger infotainment screen is shared on all models, a more powerful CPU and more RAM for the infotainment system, better response on the dual clutch transmission and the two top models get the auto tailgate (previously only the highest Flagship variant). So while nothing has changed in terms of looks, and pricing as it actually comes in like previously, you get a better can and with the current early bird promotions, a lot of your money's worth for what is PROTON's best selling B segment SUV.
Since its launch in 2020, the Proton X50 has been a success story for PROTON, with over 110,000 units having been sold, it is the best-selling SUV in Malaysia over the past four years. The X50 is based on the Geely Binyue, the left-hand drive Geely model it is based on, which has sold over 770,000 units globallyand with the introduction of a series of upgrades for this 2024 model, PROTON promises an even more technologically advanced and refined driving experience.
Improved NVH quality and more
The 2024 PROTON X50 gets product upgrades that address feedback received from customers. From what we see this is more on the quality rather than looks as nothing externally has changed. It is the same X50 from the outside as all the changes are underneath and inside. aThe highlight among these enhancements is a new noise, vibration & harshness (NVH) package, which offers a quieter and more refined driving experience. Over 20 areas have been improved for better road noise insulation, creating a better overall interior ambience. A power tailgate has also been added to Premium and Flagship variants for ease of operation.
The 10.3” infotainment head unit (IHU) in the 2024 X50 has been upgraded with a new dual quad-core processor unit providing faster bootup speed and loading time. This allows seamless operation of multiple apps concurrently in the foreground and in the background without any risk of intermittent response. It also features the “Hi PROTON” voice command and PROTON Link app, that features the ability to start the engine and cool the cabin remotely.
The new X50 delivers a combination of safety and convenience with a new High-Definition 360 Camera, which displays crystal clear images even in low light conditions, making parking a breeze. Should the driver still feel uneasy, there is the Auto Park Assist function to complete the task. When operating the signal stalk, a 3D view of the surroundings will appear to reduce blind spots for safer lane change maneuvers and this safety feature is functional up to 150 km/h.
The 2024 X50 still has the 1.5 litre turbocharged direct injection engine with an output of 177 PS of power and 255Nm of torque, paired to a 7-speed dual clutch transmission. It allows a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 7.9 seconds.
Safety comes in the form of six SRS airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), as well as level two Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).
So basically, it looks the same, but there are better upgrades. In terms of ride and handling, it is should drive the same as it has when it was launched, but more refined overall. I think this is a good change as it still looks good on the outside as well as the inside. This is especially so for the higher specification variants with the two toned dashboard. It looks more premium than what it is.
Special Offers at launchAccording to the folks at PROTON, the product upgrades to the 2024 PROTON X50 deliver RM6,000 worth of added value to buyers, or in simple terms, this is how much new stuff that they have added to the cars. However PROTON is maintaining the price of the X50. Most likely this is due to productivity and also the stiff competition these days with all those new China made SUVs on the market. This is actually good for the consumer as everyone is trying their best to sell their cars.
As an added carrot to dangle to prospective buyers, PROTON is also introducing a limited-time Early Bird Package offering incentives of up to RM8,500 to the first 5,000 customers who register their new purchase by 31 July 2024. Alongside its comprehensive package of benefits designed to enrich the ownership experience, the 2024 PROTON X50 comes with a five-year unlimited mileage warranty, five-year data package with 1GB per month and six times free labour service.
