MAN Truck & Bus Launches the Euro 5 Compliant MAN TGX - The Flagship Model Comes to Malaysia

MAN Truck & Bus (M) Sdn Bhd (MAN Malaysia) had launched the flagship MAN TGX heavy duty prime mover at the Malaysia  Commercial Vehicle Expo (MCVE) 2022. The truck, at the moment brought into the country in fully imported form will eventually be locally assembled, comes in the Euro V (5) emissions standards. It will offer those operators and customers that want a high performance MAN truck with the option of saving the whales at the same time.

Euro 5 trucks are now trickling into Malaysia as the diesel grade has become available nationwide over the past year or so. It has taken quite a long time for Malaysia to make Euro 5 available and it had actually stopped vehicle manufacturers to sell their cleanest trucks offered. They had to be saddled with truck that could only handle Euro 3 which meant older technology engines that actually limited models being sold here. But not any more, and we get the latest, and greatest new trucks like the MAN TGX you see in the photos here. MAN also became the first manufacturer here to offer only a complete range of Euro 5 trucks.

The all-new MAN TGX is powered by the proven MAN D2676 LF08 Euro V  diesel engine with a maximum power output of 540 hp, maximum torque of 2,500 Nm and much lower carbon emissions to comply with stricter Envrionmental, Social and Governance (ESG) standards that are the norm in today’s business environment.  It's drivetrain features the 12-speed MAN TipMatic® gearbox which is fitted with gear ratios for efficient moving-off and gearshift strategy to reduce fuel consumption and high levels of driving and operating comfort. The TGX on display at the MCVE also features a 6x4 drive train configuration.

The TGX has an exterior width of 2440 mm, length of 2280 mm and height of 2150 mm, and is designed for long-haul and cross-border trips that typically last a few days. The cabin offers more than 520 litres of combined storage space while the standing height of 2100 mm allows easy movement for the driver and co-driver. Basically, it allows the driver of average height to stand upright in the cabin making it a comfortable place to be in.

I had a short chat with MAN Malaysia Managing Director Andrew O’Brooks where he stated that MAN Malaysia only chose to bring in their flagship models and the other Euro 5 kitted out trucks here only at this juncture due to having models that actually suit the overall market situation with an emphasis for trucks that are fitted out to carry the more safety required oil & gas or dangerous goods cargo. It is having the right product for the market and not just having flagship model here.

The sale of the TGX here in Malaysia basically completes MAN's range of trucks offered here in some ways and it part of their expansion in the country. The brand is making inroads in terms of their services offered with more customer touchpoints coming on the pipeline. Recently, the brand had opened their Port Klang centre (located where it might be the busiest cargo transportation related area in Malaysia) and there should be opening another one within this year in the Klang Valley.

All-new MAN TGX flagship model makes Malaysian debut at MCVE 2022

MAN Malaysia sees market potential for biggest truck model in its new Euro V emission-compliant product line-up

Kuala Lumpur (10 March 2022) -- MAN Truck & Bus (M) Sdn Bhd (MAN Malaysia) believes there is significant market demand for the flagship model of its recently launched Euro V emission-compliant New MAN Truck Generation line-up.

The all-new MAN TGX was officially unveiled by Deputy Transport Minister Dato‘ Henry Sum Agong at this year’s Malaysia Commercial Vehicle Expo (MCVE) 2022.

Following its Malaysian debut, the all-new MAN TGX with a high roof and the largest cab among all the New MAN Truck Generation models, will be offered alongside its more familiar stablemate, the flexible and versatile MAN TGS that is typically the model of choice in this market.

With an exterior width of 2440 mm, length of 2280 mm and height of 2150 mm, the all-new MAN TGX is designed for long-haul and cross-border trips that typically last a few days.

The spacious cabin offers more than 520 litres of combined storage space while the standing height of 2100 mm allows easy movement for the driver and co-driver.

The 12-speed MAN TipMatic® gearbox promises excellent moving-off and gearshift strategy to reduce fuel consumption and high levels of driving and operating comfort.

In November 2021, MAN became the first truck manufacturer in Malaysia to offer Euro V engines as standard across its entire product portfolio.

MAN Malaysia Managing Director Andrew O’Brooks said that the move demonstrated the company’s desire to stand-up and be counted in Malaysia’s journey towards carbon neutral status by 2050.

“We are effectively challenging the Malaysian transporters to join the journey and take the lead in reducing carbon emissions.  In Europe, long distance transport vehicles produce as much as 27 percent of CO2 gases. Malaysia must look and act now to reduce its carbon footprint, the commercial vehicle industry as well as public service vehicles can do their part in this environmental challenge.

As a manufacturer, MAN is doing its part to offer the right solution.  Our New MAN Truck Generation with Euro V engines as standard is an all-new product range that leads the way in driver orientation, fuel efficiency, assistance systems, digital networking and above all, sustainability.  The industry certainly needs to reinvest in new, future-proof trucks that meet these criteria especially in the current business environment that demands strict environmental, social and governance (ESG) compliance.

The strong uptake since its launch just some four months ago shows that many Malaysian transporters are forward thinking and share our belief that we must do more for the environment now rather than later,” he said.

At MCVE 2022, MAN Malaysia officially signed sale and purchase agreements with Sea Hawk Global Lines Sdn Bhd, Biforst Logistics Sdn Bhd and Azmi Gas Sdn Bhd.
