Kuala Lumpur. Porsche Malaysia, represented by Sime Darby Auto Performance, has officially introduced the new Taycan GTS for this market. The Taycan GTS is positioned above the Taycan 4S and below the Taycan Turbo variants and it said to be the sporty all-rounder of the model range. It terms of its price, it will start at RM708,000 compared to the entry Taycan which comes in at RM508,000. Of course, this is the Taycan. So entry level and mid-range is still many, many Ringgit.
GTS stands for Gran Turismo Sport and is usually one of the more pure sporting variants when it comes to Porsche.. Since the Porsche 904 Carrera GTS of 1963, these three letters have held special significance for Porsche fans. Now, there is a derivative featuring this legendary combination of letters in every Porsche model series. With a range of up to 504 km, based on WLTP figures, the new sports model is also the first Taycan to break the 500-km mark. aSomehow, these days, it is quite hard to differentiate variants especially when this is an all electric car with only different states of tune between the cars. So this GTS gets more range aside from being slightly faster than the actually already fast 4S.
“We are driven by our passion for sports cars and sustainability as Porsche introduced the first all-electric sports car in Malaysia, - the Taycan - marking a new era of sporty electromobility. Since then, the Taycan model range has been well-received and today, we are bringing a new derivative that represents the sweet spot in the Taycan range, the GTS,” said Christopher Hunter, Chief Executive Officer of Sime Darby Auto Performance explaining why Porsche brought out this new variant.
“The new Taycan GTS perfectly complements Porsche’s first cross-border high-performance charging network in partnership with Shell. This new sporty grand tourer will make cross-country, and even cross-border road trips both seamless and absolutely sublime,” Mr. Hunter continued.
Personally, this could be a good answer to those that do not want to spend more than what they need to in terms of buying a Taycan for all out performance. It does also add more range so this is a very good thing. I do feel that even with over 430km approx range of the Taycan with extended battery it could do with more for touring round the Malaysian Peninsular. So this does feel like a good option to get.
It will still do the quite ludicrous 0-00kmh of around 3.7 seconds and still give you all the Porsche driving pleasure you can find. Somehow, for me the Porsche Taycan in ANY FORM somehow is the best all round electric powered car you can drive. There is some mechanical feel built into it by the engineers and that makes it feel less digital and more analogue. Which is what I like in cars even to this day.
OFFICIAL SUMMARY OF THE 2022 PORSCHE TAYCAN GTSTaycan GTS: the sporty sweet spot of the Taycan range
The Taycan GTS is the sporty all-rounder of the model range, with an impressive 440 kW (598 PS) of overboost power when using Launch Control. The sprint from zero to 100 km/h can be achieved within 3.7 seconds, building up to a maximum speed of 250 km/h.
As a representative of the latest Taycan generation, the GTS features particularly efficient drive strategy. Other Taycan derivatives also receive this update in the new model year, and in practical terms, this translates to extended range across all models.
Adaptive air suspension, including Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), is specifically adapted to the Taycan GTS to elevate lateral dynamics. The set-up of the optional rear-axle steering is also even sportier. The richer sound pattern of the modified Porsche Electric Sport Sound underscores the character of the new GTS model.
The exterior and interior are distinctive. There are numerous Black or dark details on the exterior, such as the front apron, the bases of the exterior mirrors and the side window trims – as is traditional on a GTS. Numerous Black Race-Tex features in the interior underscore the elegant, dynamic ambience, as does the standard brushed aluminium interior package with Black anodised finish.
Panoramic roof with Sunshine Control: transparent or matte at the touch of a button
A panoramic roof with Sunshine Control is available as a new optional extra for the Taycan GTS. An electrically switchable liquid crystal film can change the roof from clear to matte at the touch of a button, protecting occupants from glare, without detracting the bright ambience of the interior.
The roof is divided into nine segments that can be switched individually – a world first in the automotive sector. In addition to the Clear and Matte settings, Semi and Bold can also be selected. These are predefined patterns with narrow or wide segments.
Premium Package as standard option for enhanced overall driving comfort and pleasure
Alongside the launch of the new Taycan GTS, Porsche Malaysia also announces a raft of updates for the Taycan models.
