Scania has delivered their first EURO V (5) New Truck Generation (NTG) in Malaysia as part of its sustainable partnership with Xin Hwa Holdings Berhad (Xin Hwa). The key was handed over to Ng Aik Chuan, Managing Director, Xin Hwa Holdings Berhad by Thor Brenden, ServicesDirector, Scania Southeast Asia. Witnessing the handover was His Excellency Dr Joachim Bergstrőm, Swedish Ambassador to Malaysia. This makes Scania of of the few that are now offering a cleaner, more environmental friendly diesel engined commerical vehicle to be sold in the country.
The 620hp / 3,000Nm V8 turbodiesel powered Scania NTG Euro V R620A6X4NZ features Scania's Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system that reduces local emissions that contribute to smog and haze. Committing to theEU emission standard, local emissions are measured in Nitrogen Oxides (NOx), a toxic gas, and particulate matter (PM). Extra High-Pressure Injection (XPI) enhances performance and fuel economy. The truck that Xin Hwa has procured is one of the most powerful that have been purchased in recent years and it is now one of the cleanest too.a
Scania’s mission is to drive the shift towards a sustainable transport system through sustainable partnerships, creating a world of mobility that is better for business, society and the environment. By starting to deliver Euro V vehicles, it helps towards creating a healthier environment in Malaysia.
Aside from its very eco-friendly emissions, well, at least bringing Malaysia into the Euro V era at the very least is the R620's overall package. The R-series sleeper cab that was handed over comes with normal roof height and offers a spacious driver area enabling an optimum driving position. It has good space for storage and installing extra equipment in the cab. It can be equipped with up to two beds.
The design of this New Truck Generation has improved from the previous generation making the truck more user-friendly. A very comfortable adjustable driver seat that is placed closer to the door, with ergonomic dashboard and most importantly the large windscreen with extended view. It gives clear visibility from the different angles for the drivers making it easier for them to operate in a comfortable and safe environment. Safety features include the Electronic Braking System (EBS) for responsive emergency braking while the retarder provides additional braking power. The standard Opticruise gearbox gives the Scania NTG Euro V a pre-set default Economy mode for better fuel efficiency.
This Scania R620 is one of two units in this configuration that has been ordered and it is also in a 6 by 4 drivetrain with the two axles behind the cabin having drive. The heavy duty, high performance specification was chosen by Xin Hwa for very heavy haulage that are over 100 tons per load. A notable cargo that XinHwa transports currently are the concrete pylons that are used by the Mass Rapid Transit 3 project which is ongoing. The very heavy concrete slabs and structures are fabricated off-site and are transported by these heavy duty trucks. As their business has actually expanded in this sector - the super heavy haulage category, Xin Hwa has decided to invest more into these top of the range trucks.
Not many of them are on the road folks. 620HP and 3,000 Nm four wheel drive trucks are not a common sight here. So if you are truck watchers, do take note of these blue coloured Scania trucks plying Malaysian roads. These could be said are the current performance champions out there in terms of brute horsepower and torque.
“This Scania New Truck Generation Euro V was specified for Xin Hwa as it has the power and torque that is needed by their operations. We went further by recommending to lower local emissions too by using Euro V,” said Thor.
“And, with Scania Financial Services, Xin Hwa will also benefit from the flexible financing solutions by Scania Credit Malaysia providing it with predictable cost over the entire lifecycle of the truck,” added Thor.
Established on 18 January 2013, Xin Hwa is an investment holding company engaged in the provision of management services. Through its subsidiary Xin Hwa Logistics and Transport Sdn Bhd, it provides integrated logistic services involved in land transportation, warehousing and distribution operations. The founder Eng (Ng) Peng Lam started a small-scale transport operation in 1965 and in 1992 expanded the land transport operations with sons Ng Aik Chuan and Ng Yam Pin through the incorporation of Sinwah Trading & Transport Agency, a transport and customs forwarding agency involving the provision of cargo transportation services for manufactured products. They currently operate about 700 trucks and it does look like more are in the pipeline.
