What do you do when you are handed the
key to a Volkswagen Golf R? You head straight for the nearest B road
of course. Within half an hour I was already on Jalan Gombak, headed
towards Genting Sempah and beyond. I think if you had the time any of
you would do the same thing if you had a R with you.

Most of you folks out there know that here at motoring-malaysia we have a whole lot of original posts that you can never find on other Malaysian automotive websites. This time we get Volkswagen Golf R Mk6 owner Firdaus Asri to tell you what he thinks of the latest Golf R Mk7 as I had arranged for him to bring out his Mk6 R to tango with the Mk7 R.
Now according to him, the BEST HOT HATCH ever, is the Mk7 Golf R.
Firdaus. I told you, you bought the wrong R!

Guest Post: Owner's review - 2010 Volkswagen Golf R Mk6
Hello folks. Today we have another guest post. Firdaus Asri, owner of the 2010 Volkswagen Golf R Mk6 we reviewed and posted earlier has decided to do an owner's review on his new baby. Or Baby Elephant as he calls it. In the very passionate and technical review, you will find that he is very much in love with his new car, from the performance aspect as well as its flaws and all. It is one really detailed review too. If you wanted to know how much he has spent over the last few months since getting his Golf R do read on. The graph he prepared is an eye opener.
My Mk6 Golf TSI
Convert….Err Golf R
My 6R - unexpectedly likeable, handsome and charming
People
who know me have been fully aware that I have been trying to offload
my then VW 9N3 Polo GTI 1.8T for the longest possible time. It is not
that the car isn’t any good or problematic, far from it really. But
there is a time in later part of life that I need to grow up and move
on to a matured car but can still be fast when I need it be.

Saturday Night Teh Tarik Session Part 1: Volkswagen Golf R Mk6 driven
Last Saturday a few of us got together for our usual round of teh tarik over at Desa Sri Hartamas. This time around two of them brought their new rides. One was a newly registered grey imported Volkswagen Golf R Mk6 and the other was one of those large C7 Audi A6 3.0TFSI. The Golf most of you would know is the range topping Golf whereas the A6 is the mid-tier A6, but as you will find out, a stonking one at that. So aside from the usual banter and exchange of thoughts, it was a night of driving around in some cars too.

New car launch: Volkswagen officially launches the Mk 7 Volswagen Golf R for Malaysia
The Volkswagen Golf R is officially in town. It will costs those interested RM245,888 without insurance and if you opt for the optional tech pack, RM285,888 without any insurance too.
This new Mk 7 Golf R is fitted with a newly designed 2.0l TSI engine producing 290hp and 380Nm of torque from as low as 1750rpm via the usual wet clutch DSG transmission unit through all four wheels (a Haldex All-wheel drive system). This allows the Golf R to accelerate from 0 to 100kph in 5 seconds and onwards to around 250kmh easily. It, like any Mk7 Golf is based on VW's pretty good Modular Transverse Matrix (MQB) platform. As with any performance hatchback the Golf R built on a chassis that starts of as a regular Golf hatchback and gets extra engineering built into it. A good foundation is all important, and when it comes to ride, handling as well as NVH, the engineers already have the brilliant chassis of the basic Golf and makes it into the Golf R.
